"Fun!"
"An unusual take on the seance theme, but a lit of fun to watch from the start. The extras are always good, it's one of the many reasons I buy physical media. If you like period horror with a dose of comedy, then this is a good pick."
"A group of military veterans get together and end up holding a seance. That was enough to have me sold, and it should be enough for you as well. It has great atmosphere but it is a slow burn type of movie."
"One setting and a lot of fun and scare"
"Movie: All of the necessary elements are here, but ultimately the movie doesn't bring them together in a satisfying way. The characters were compelling, the single location scenario is pretty tight, and I was hooked by the central moral problem. However, I was waiting for an "and then what?" that just didn't come. The Black & White version suited it at least as well as the color, although I feel like if they'd gone all in from the beginning it might've been even better. Extras: A good interview, and the background information definitely added to the movie's poignancy. Book: Somewhat overlapping info as the interview but it's nice to have it in text alongside nice pictures. Packaging: Great cover design, and the slip artwork is nice as well"
"This was such a hidden gem for us . Highly recommended film"
"a movie with some classic actors that deliver a high quality thriller!"
"Something told me to choose the black and white version for this first watch. I'll eventually see this in color but based on the clips included in the behind-the-scenes doc, I think I made the right call. Seeing Anne Ramsay here proved, as I suspected, to be an absolute delight. It confirmed much of what I expected from seeing her on Mad About You. Overall, much like the characters in this story, this film didn't let me for its entire running time. (4 1/2 out of 5)"
"A surprise gem from Shudder. Love the extras on this disc and booklet too."
"BROOKLYN 45 is a movie driven by a solid ensemble cast! While the cast was uniformly strong, the actors that really stood out for me are Anne Ramsay, Jeremy Holm, and Kristina Klebe. The characters are well defined and complex at a level that is rare in today's horror films. Most of the film is confined to a single room, but that doesn't work against it at all. The story never drags or feels static. The setup is five lifelong friends, all with a military background gather shortly after World War II to support one of their group, who recently lost his wife to apparent suicide. They reluctantly humor their host's request to hold a seance, and the situation soon goes uncontrollably wrong! The story goes far beyond that, as dark secrets the members carry are gradually revealed and conflicts grow between the individuals. BROOKLYN 45 does not rely on jump scares but builds dread through the mounting presence of supernatural agencies and the conflicts between the characters! There are a couple of squirmy, gory moments, made more impactful by their sparsity and careful placement in the plot. Ted Geoghegan's screenplay and direction keep you on the edge of your seat, and also gives the viewer much to think about. I think the only other film of his that I have seen is WE ARE STILL HERE (2015), which is also highly recommended! I will be browsing the streaming services for the films I missed and looking forward to his next project! Vinegar Syndrome's packaging is very pleasing, underlining this as a film that should be in your permanent collection! The presentation of the film itself is excellent, offering clarity, detail, and immersive sound design! I watched the black & white version, so I can't comment on the color version. I highly recommend this disc!"
