The slipcover is awesome, as always with anything VS or their awesome partner Labels release! It is a cool movie that was a lot of fun to watch! Blonde on a *** Trip feels like somebody mashed together an anti-drug scare film, a nudie, and an underground New York student movie, then just let the whole thing get progressively stranger. The black-and-white photography gives it a rough little time-capsule quality, and the LSD angle makes the whole movie feel wonderfully sleazy and paranoid.
The soundtrack is probably my favorite part. The E-Types, The Vagrants, and the rest of that garage-rock sound give the movie way more energy than I expected, and “Put the Clock Back on the Wall” gets lodged in your head almost immediately.
The Blu-ray presentation is excellent too. The 4K restoration from the original 35mm camera negative looks surprisingly strong, and the commentaries, vintage LSD scare films, gallery, and 40-page book make this feel like a real archival release instead of just an excuse to dump an old exploitation movie on disc. The Richard Hilliard box design is loud as **** and fits the movie perfectly.
Weird, grimy, *****, and very much of its era. Not exactly subtle cinema 😂, but definitely the kind of exploitation time capsule I’m glad somebody preserved.
