Birthrite

Birthrite really worked for me because it has that low-budget occult-horror vibe where the atmosphere does a lot of the heavy lifting. The isolated setting, family secrets, strange rituals, and constant feeling that something is wrong give the movie a creepy slow-burn quality that kept me into it.

I also like that it doesn’t feel overly polished. There’s a roughness to the performances and filmmaking that actually fits the story and gives it that regional-horror personality I’m always a sucker for. Once the supernatural side starts taking over, the movie gets considerably nastier and more interesting.

The limited edition presentation is a big part of the appeal too. The black-and-red slipcover is simple but striking, and that antler imagery gives it exactly the right occult/folk-horror look on the shelf.

Creepy, strange, and much more memorable than I expected. Easy 5/5 for me. 😁

Got this because I remember liking the trailer and it had good marks from people. A third into this, I realized I hadn't seen Patricia Heaton and looked it up and realized I had mistaken this for The Beldham. ****. This one was frustratingly dispassionate; one of those films where it feels like someone saw other horror movies and decided to churn one out. Every ******* shot is a medium-tight with almost no variation, the plot is exactly what you think it will be, and the acting is "stare pensively and slightly eye-watered" the entire ******* time before it ends in a nothing burger. If you want to know how the future of AI-generated filmmaking will feel like, this is the kind of soulless, bland entries we have waiting for us.

I was pleasantly surprised with how much I enjoyed this. Smartly written and expertly directed. Highly recommended.

A couple inherit a home in a small town but something isn't right with the people in town. I was hooked and wasn't sure how it would end. Great video quality and easy to understand voices. Subtitles were excellent.

Great release . . liked it
