Birth/Rebirth

The body horror is VERY effective. It's so effective that it's actually a little upsetting at times. The burdens placed upon the female body are shown with sterile, unflinching clarity.

Marin Ireland is fantastic as the "mad scientist" and her performance elevates the many quiet moments. As bonkers as this premise is, every decision feels like it's motivated. I don't feel like the movie is asking me to take as big a leap as it's actually taking and that's due to the grounded performances. It was great and I'll probably never watch it again!

Birth/Rebirth is a modern, maternal twist on the Frankenstein story. . . . The acting, movie pacing and sound score were incredible. . . . . . The story follows two women whose lives are completely driven by their work. Celie is a passionate maternity nurse and a loving single mother to her six-year-old daughter, Lila. Rose, a socially awkward and intensely clinical pathologist, secretly works on reanimating the dead in her apartment. . . . A must buy. .

Great as usual, packaging is beautiful!

I saw this on Shudder when it premiered a couple of years ago and was really impressed. A great cast, a compelling story, and another Vinegar Syndrome release that really honors the source material.

This modern, female-led reimagining of the classic Frankenstein tale is an absolute knockout that balances intense psychological drama with visceral body horror. Actors deliver flawless, deeply unsettling performances. Good flick.
