      I really do miss video stores.

      "I can't say that I absolutely loved this documentary, mostly thanks to the rather odd musical numbers, but I definitely get the feels it was going for. Growing up, the local video store was my favourite place on earth. I could spend hours just looking at all the posters and cool box art. It's no surprise that one of my first jobs was working in a video store in the early 90's, so I can totally identify with a lot of what's talked about here. There was certainly something special about the experience of browsing a shelf full of mostly poster-inspired box art and then flipping the box over to read the blurbs on the back before finally making a decision and committing to what sometimes ended up being a real stinker, or sometimes changed your whole outlook on life. In fact, I liken it to browsing the Vinegar Syndrome site during a sale and deciding what to blind-buy. Sometimes you end up with a new favourite, and sometimes you wonder what was going through your head. It's a very similar experience. This movie was one such blind-buy for me, and even though I wouldn't call it life-changing, I'm still glad that I picked it up. While the film does paint a somewhat bleak picture of what's become of them, it's still comforting to know that video stores meant so much to other people too. Also, John Waters is hilarious."
