This was a fun look at the glory days of VHS rental. I wish there was more archival footage of old stores, but it was a definitely worth a watch.

At the Video Store is an observational documentary that captures the fleeting world of a small independent video rental store in the age of streaming. The film presents an intimate portrait of the store owner, staff, and loyal customers, exploring themes of nostalgia, community, and the evolution of film culture. Guerín’s signature patient, contemplative style allows viewers to immerse themselves in the quiet rhythms of daily life, creating a reflective and at times poignant meditation on how cinema and human connection intersect. While minimalist in action, the film’s charm lies in its empathy and attention to small details.
