Wanda’s famed archeologist father has been missing for years. Out of the blue, she receives an unexpected letter from her father’s colleague in Africa informing her that his disappearance is due to his presumed death after falling down a bottomless pit. Deciding to make the transcontinental journey in the hope of finding him alive, Wanda flies to Africa only to end up stumbling down the same pit as her father. Once at the bottom of the hole, she discovers that it’s the gateway to a lost subterranean civilization - Atlantis! Unfortunately, the Atlanteans don’t take too kindly to visitors from the Earth’s surface...

"An adventure loosely based on Jules Verne’s Journey to the Center of the Earth. It’s rough around the edges but has its charm. Acting isn’t all that great but honestly, was that expected? I also got major Super Mario Bros. vibes from the production. It won’t be for everyone but there’s fun to be had here for the right person."

Vinegar Syndrome has once again treated an obscure cult film with impressive care, offering a new 2K restoration from the 35mm interpositive along with several worthwhile interviews. Unfortunately, the disc is locked to Region A but that was mentioned in the item description. . An entertaining curiosity with plenty of visual imagination, but not one of Cannon’s strongest adventures."

"I picked up a cheap copy, as I wanted to give this a second chance (and I'm glad I did!). The film has a charm about it, but the first time I watched it the whole thing felt a bit disjointed. Second time it didn't, but I guess that's just because I had a better idea what to expect. What I will say is that Albert Pyun made it look a million bucks and the world he creates is rich and visually interesting. In any event, Cannon no longer exist and films like this aren't going to get made again (not shot on film anyway), so I think it's important to accept the shortcomings and accept these old movies for what they are!"
