This listing is for the standard edition Blu-ray. The limited edition slipcover (designed by Matt Needle) was limited to 500 units and is sold out. The two versions are identical, aside from the slipcover.

Founded in 2002 as one of the first-ever subscription film services with its DVD-of-the-Month Film Club, Film Movement is now a North American distributor of award-winning independent and foreign films based in New York City. In 2015, Film Movement launched the reissue label Film Movement Classics featuring new restorations released theatrically as well as on home video, with an emphasis on films by auteur directors such as Eric Rohmer, Peter Greenaway and Takeshi Kitano.

32-year-old Ichiko (Sakura Ando, Shoplifters) lives at home in self-indulgent grunginess with her parents and recently divorced younger sister. One morning, after a particularly heated argument, Ichiko decides to leave for good. With few options to support herself, she finds a job at a 100 yen shop (dollar store). Each day on her way home from work Ichiko passes a boxing gym where she watches Yuji Kano (Hirofumi Arai) silently practice. The two make plans to see each other, and suddenly life starts to change for Ichiko... At last, the bell rings, and this longtime loser's rematch with life begins!

Japan's official entry for the Best Foreign Language Film Oscar, Masaharu Take's 100 YEN LOVE had its world premiere at the Tokyo International Film Festival where it won the Japanese Cinema Splash Best Picture Award.

"Sakura Ando is incredible in this film. The transformation of her character wasn't the easiest watch the entire time, but it was well worth it. Sometimes life ain't easy and 100 Yen Love doesn't bs. The direction and performances are excellent. I wish there were more features, but the slipcover looks awesome!"

An Inspiring Story

"Thus film tells the story of a 32 year old slacker who gets kicked out of her house and fits a job at a 100 Yen shop. She finds a new passion and love interest in the sport of boxing. We see her trials and tribulations as she trains to become a good Boxer and pull herself up from poverty. Overall, it was an inspiring story of perseverance with a great performance from the leas actress. I would recommend seeing this movie."
