"Nick Millard's "Criminally Insane" is a quintessential film in regional slasher history. The stark cinematography, lighting, and shadows, along with the score, give it a noir-like quality which is quickly contrasted by brutal and bloody killings, splattered in the cartoonishly red blood like much of early 70's horror. Priscilla Alden's deadpan and childlike performance as "Big Fat Ethel" is perfect for the character and, possibly unknowingly, helped change the role of women in horror. This along with the oddly charming "Satan's Black Wedding" (shot in Millard's own house!) is a grindhouse double feature that will have you saying "My God.""
