Details

This special limited edition slipcover (designed by Nate Higley) is limited to 1,000 units and is only available on our website and at select indie retailers. Absolutely no major retailers will be stocking them.

Saturn's Core Audio & Video is a New Jersey based home video label devoted to releasing underground oddities and shot on video cinema on VHS, and now, blu-ray discs! In partnership with OCN Distribution, Saturn's Core will exhume forgotten or under-seen genre cinema from the 80s and 90s, with an emphasis on SOV horror features. Vinegar Syndrome’s sister company, OCN Distribution, is thrilled to be representing this diverse and unique home video line!

Welcome to Sidney. A small, midwestern town with an undeniably eccentric assortment of inhabitants. Lisa hires a prostitute as a present for her husband’s birthday but all he really wants is a committed dance partner. Ray’s clandestine extramarital affair miraculously causes his wife to become a psychic joke writer. When Mitch’s promiscuous secretary turns up murdered in his office, the tangled web of sex, infidelity, and betrayal amongst the town’s residents makes nearly everyone a potential suspect. Toss in a detective with a wrestling fetish, P.I.’s paid in baked goods, and a homicidal lawyer grappling with a terminal medical diagnosis and you’ve got a regional, micro-budget whodunnit like no other.

The Betacam shot feature debut from Champaign, IL based actor, filmmaker, and theater vet Mike Trippiedi (Amber Rose), Dogs in Quicksand seamlessly melds the quirky, darkly comedic aura of the Coen Brothers with the offbeat, small town murder mystery vibes of Twin Peaks. One of the ‘90s most acerbic SOV satires, Saturn’s Core is proud to present the Blu-Ray debut of Dogs in Quicksand; compiled under the supervision of director Mike Trippiedi and featuring over 4 hours of new and archival special features (including commentaries, documentaries, short films, and a 28-page booklet) chronicling the entire evolution of Trippiedi’s deviceful Shut Up and Do It Productions collective.

Reviews

Entertaining low budget neo noir

"Entertaining low budget neo noir with a fun storyline with plenty of fun twists and characters. Props for the effort on this project. Package comes with nifty artwork and there's a handful of fun extras on the disc."

Its crazy. It SOV. I

"Its crazy. It SOV. I was not as impressed as I would have hoped. Not a big fan of it. Found it rather exhausting to get through."

Edward l. (2/5)

Great kookball collection

"DOGS itself is an 8/10 for me, with the whole collection earning full honors. I love to see an otherwise unknown troupe of players making their brand of cinema. The shorts are a lot of fun. And of course, it's always worthwhile to get ahold of non-horror SOV craziness."

Isaac W. (5/5)

Dogs In Quicksand

"More eccentric curiosity than polished thriller, it lingers as a snapshot of DIY Midwestern filmmaking."

Pierre-Yves L. (2/5)

Bought this on a whim

"Bought this on a whim and was shocked by how good it was. A low budget drama with great dialog and interesting turns. I am very happy to add this to my already growing number of SOV movies bought from VS and Saturns Core."

Sam A. (5/5)

Saturn Core

"I just can never go wrong with some Saturn Core. I adore most of these."

Justin M. (5/5)

This Is A Very Cool Movie!

"I love the awesome slipcover, which is always the case with anything VS related! The movie is very interesting and kept my interest throughout! It was good quality entertainment! The characters in this mystery were very believable and fun to watch, adding depth to the film! The peerless VS restoration process was on full display with stellar sound and picture! Thank you, VS, for continuing to lovingly restore and release so many wonderful films from every conceivable genre! You are keeping physical media alive in this streaming world we now live in! Highly recommended!"

Paul K. (5/5)

Cheesy SOV neo noir film.

"Cheesy SOV neo noir film. It’s low budget, dumb, and full of bad acting, but a fun watch. I can’t say I loved the artwork although it kind of fits the quality of the film, but the extras are all consuming and well worth your time."

Kyle C. (3/5)

Dogs In Quicksand

"worth the watch"

Jason S. (5/5)

Flailing Dogs, not Reservoir. . .

"SOV gem that would be better known if it were done by The Coen Bros. rather than IL unknowns."
