A sly, sultry character study from filmmaker Justine Triet, SIBYL follows a psychotherapist (Virginie Efira) who decides to quit her practice and return to writing instead. As Sibyl starts dropping patients, she begins to struggle with excess time and a lack of inspiration--until she gets a call from Margot (Adèle Exarchopoulos), a young actress wrapped up in a dramatic affair with her costar, Igor (Gaspard Ulliel), who happens to be married to the film’s director (Sandra Hüller). Becoming further enmeshed in Margot’s life, Sibyl starts to blur past and present, fiction with reality, and the personal with the professional as she begins to use Margot’s life as source material for her novel.

Reviews

From masterful filmmaker Justine Triet

"I was very pleased to get this during the recent OOP sale, as the slip artwork was too beautiful to pass up. After the incredible Anatomy of a Fall, I will watch anything by Justine Triet, and Sibyl didn't disappoint."

Frank L. (4/5)

Nice movie!

"Been wanting to see this ever since I saw Anatomy of a Fall. It’s not as good, but still pretty interesting. I’m glad I was able to pick up this disc. If it looks interesting to you, grab it before it’s gone."

Aidan Z. (4/5)

Sibyl

"An enjoyable film."

Gloria W. (5/5)

Ok movie, a bit confusing.

"The movie really confused me those flashbacks made me lose track of the plot several times, and in the end, it doesn’t really lead anywhere. The performances are very good, and the cinematography and overall design of the film work well, even the few countries shown are portrayed nicely. But honestly, I didn’t connect with the movie. I bought it just to have more of Virginie Efira’s films, but I don’t think I’ll watch it again anytime soon. It’s a bit confusing, in my opinion."

Emmanuel R. (3/5)
