"Sucker for 80s nostalgia and synth score goes hard. Great summer movie."
"Summer of '84 is a tense thriller with horror ingredients wrapped in a coming-of-age package. . . and It is phenomenal. It's like the eighties kind of movies but with a grimm tons. The edition features a great transfer in 4k, that makes the movie see different from the usual scan of other "dark" films. Highly recommended."
"Great release with strong presentation and excellent packaging. Very happy to add this one to the collection."
"One of my favorite discoveries. Watched it two days in a row which I almost never do. Was surprised to see Rich Sommer who I only knew as a side character on the Office. Really clever and thrilling. Score is phenomenal!"
"Summer of 84 is an extremely clever take on the "kids go on a perilous adventure" films that were so popular in the 80's, but with a twist I dare not spoil here. The period details, excellent cinematography, synth score, and child performances are all noteworthy, but it's the direction of the narrative and accompanying tone that set this apart. Buckle in for this one. The 4K edition captures this in glorious fashion, highlighting the excellent night time lighting in particular. Bonus features are copious and juicy, with a great commentary track from the charming directing team (RKSS), interviews, storyboards, an amusing short film, etc. It's also worth mentioning how nice it is to receive a 4K UHD disc that plays with no errors straight out of the box, not requiring repeated attempts to wipe off residue from the manufacturing process. No one does it better than Vinegar Syndrome."
"Great release overal but I am over with this 80's nostalgia with generic horny teenagers. It tries to do something different in the end but falls flat for me."
"Beautiful transfer for an overlooked great."
"The streaming sleeper hit. I slept on this for a long time, glad I grabbed it, loved the film. Amazing 4k presentation and decent extras."
"Same 80's nostalgia, kids-on-bikes setup as Stranger Things, but it trades sci-fi and supernatural elements for a grounded, darker serial-killer mystery. Really enjoyed this one!"
"This film had nostalgia written all over it and really reminded me of stranger things. But not nearly as good. It had a very creepy essence to it but I still liked it. Worth a watch for sure"
