When Ann, the wealthy yet mentally unstable wife of accomplished author Larry, claims to have found her husband brutally murdered in her stables, her psychiatrist, Dr. Marc, and Larry’s secretary, Mary, are skeptical — not least because there is no body to be found. What’s more, Dr. Marc finds a note from Larry saying he’s going away for a while to clear his head. A year later, Larry returns to the house, but Ann is adamant that this man is not her husband, despite the protests of Dr. Marc and Mary to the contrary. To add to her mounting turmoil, Ann starts to experience gruesome hallucinations and receives phone calls from someone claiming to be the real Larry, contacting her from beyond the grave. As those around her start being dispatched in various grisly ways, is Ann losing her grip on sanity, or could something even more diabolical be afoot?
Helmed by Enzo Milioni, director of giallo favorite The Sister of Ursula (1978), and starring Euro-horror regular Zora Kerova (Cannibal Ferox, The New York Ripper), ESCAPE FROM DEATH (aka Luna di sangue) was produced as part of a series of direct-to-video and television films released under the banner of “Lucio Fulci presents”, which also includes Fulci’s own Touch of Death and Umberto Lenzi’s Hell’s Gate. "Great release! Very entertaining giallo -- a smallscale, melodramatic mystery with enough wonderfully trashy, ersatz elements to boggle one's mind at how this ever played on television. These elements, of course, are to the film's benefit. Plus, the slipcover is an absolute beauty to behold."
"The Fulci presents lineup is a hit or miss bag for most but Escape from Death is still a fun ride for me. Is the plot confusing as hell with plot holes galore? Yes, very much so, but this is late 80's Italian horror and that was just something you dealt with. No, I'm here for the sleaze, gore and WTF that most of these films contain and Escape is that in spades. A film like this probably doesn't deserve such a great transfer by VS but I can say I very much appreciate it for this slice of dumb horror."

"A Lucio Fulci Presents title, we shouldn't expect too much from this, and it doesn't deliver more than the basic thrills. That said, I have a soft spot for this bottom of the barrel, late 80s Italian schlock and did enjoy the film. Hopefully the rest are coming from VS."

"After the recently released and also terrible Massacre, another "Fulci presents" title, my expectations were subterranean for this next one, and in many ways, it's even worse than Massacre. At least Massacre had something of a giallo/slasher structure, it was terribly done but it mostly felt like a horror film. Escape is an excruciatingly boring 90 minutes (actually less, but it feels like 2+ hours) of a soap opera-like drama, and very far into the film, some kills happen. Pretty much the entire film takes place at this fairly large rural manor, with scenes occupied by a few of some of the most unlikeable and uninteresting characters, none of whom I cared about. The entire plot hinges on whether this wealthy disturbed woman actually killed her husband or not, as he, or, a doppelganger returns a year after his supposed death which noone else has ever verified. That's all the lame intrigue this film can muster, as we get scene after scene, damn near an hour, of her, some random people she employs or knows, including estate workers, and a shrink, just standing and sitting around this same house talking about her dead (or just disappeared) husband, her finances, mental state, and her husband's novel writing. I cannot overemphasize how incredibly unengaging and dull this all is, from start to finish, it's truly painful to sit through, never kicks into any other gears or gets better in the slightest. Some kill scenes finally happen in the last 30 minutes, but they're really nothing and rather shoddily done. The revelation as to whether the returned man is or isn't the woman's actual husband is done in such an anticlimactic, ham-fisted way it has zero dramatic impact. It also occurs well before the film ends, removing the only story intrigue this film ever had. The killer reveal is actually ridiculous, as there's so few characters in this film, they kill off every other possible person it could be, leaving no doubt. The actual killer's motives aren't really explained or fully make sense. Do not watch this, it's absolute garbage filmmaking."
