Honestly Could've Watched Another Two Hours Of This
"Mike Figgis basically gets a Burden of Dreams pass to follow Francis Ford Coppola’s $120 million fever dream, and the result is an incredible portrait of an auteur slowly losing the plot while insisting everyone else play along. The Shia LaBeouf footage is priceless, especially the moments where Coppola looks completely baffled by whatever insanity is happening in front of him, while Aubrey Plaza emerges as the MVP of the whole circus. But the real fascination is Coppola himself: after decades of dreaming about Megalopolis, he seems genuinely surprised by the practical realities of actually making the thing. The money flying out the door, the crew departures, the endless improvisation and the sheer scale of his vision all make for an amazing behind-the-scenes spectacle. Figgis’s rough, occasionally messy approach only adds to it."
