"The start of a trilogy from Eibon sequelising two of Lucio Fulci’s classic films from the ‘Gates of Hell’ trilogy. They already separately created a comic book sequel to Zombi 2 which is also great. This time we have a sequel to ‘The House By The Cemetery’ and as always the art and colour are excellent and immediately pulls us into Fulci’s worlds. Slipcase and bookmarks are an extra bonus and look great."
"PSA: This book includes the Eibon Press adaptation of City of the Living Dead! I wasn’t able to find any mention of this online, on the cover, or anywhere on Eibon Press’s social media. But if you want the ENTIRE Saga of the 7 Gates, it’s all contained in these three volumes here on Vinegar Syndrome at a great price: Beyond the House by the Cemetery, The Beyond, and Escape from the Beyond. The House by the Cemetery comic greatly improves on the film. This whole series works to tie the saga together in interesting ways - by leaning hard into the dream logic of the films. Personally, I wasn’t as into the City of the Living Dead comic. The art wasn’t my style and it was visually confusing. I don’t think I would have been able to follow it very well if I hadn’t seen the movie first. On the bright side, the ending makes more sense than that of the movie."
"Ive been a Fulci fan since I was around 4 the first time my dad let me rent House By The Cemetery. At our local video store. Lets just say this has always been my favorite Fulci film followed by The Gates Of Hell. When I first heard about the comics by Eibon press, I wasn't able to purchase them as I was recovering from kidney failure and was bed ridden and on heavy pain killers. I just recently started coming back around and saw where my favorite physical media company had bought out Eibon press and released the Saga Of The 7 Gates in 3 paperback graphic novels and I was ecstatic. I ordered my favorite first and low and behold The Gates Of Hell graphic novel makes up the 2nd half of the first book. The art work is delightfully gruesome, the story fresh and compelling, I literally couldn't put it down read the entire book in 1 sitting, and was disappointed I didn't order the other 2 books at the same time so I could enjoy them back to back. Not entirely faithful to the films, but it does a splendid job of filling in plotholes and exploring the strange subplots and really fleshed out the characters back stories so they weren't so 2 dimensional. If you love the films I highly recommend picking up a copy and seeing them tied together comprehensively instead of just thematically."
