Details

This listing is for the standard edition 4-disc 4k UHD/Blu-ray release. The limited edition hard slipcase + slipcover combo (designed by Robert Sammelin) was limited to 7,000 units and is sold out. The two versions are identical, aside from the packaging and 40-page book.

During the 1980's, Cynthia Rothrock was making a name for herself as "The Queen of Martial Arts," after displaying her fighting talents in numerous Hong Kong films. Still virtually unknown in the States at the time, Golden Harvest Studios wanted to expand Rothrock's fame by having her appear in an American production. Tapping Robert Clouse (Enter the Dragon) to direct, CHINA O'BRIEN and its sequel CHINA O'BRIEN 2 brought Rockrock's hard hitting martial arts style to Western audiences for the first time.

CHINA O'BRIEN: Lori "China" O'Brien is a tough as nails big city cop. After having to use her weapon in the line of duty, China decides to give up her career as a police officer and move back to her hometown of Beaver Creek, Utah. Upon returning home, China discovers that her once quiet town is now being overrun by corruption and organized crime. When China's father - the local Sheriff - is killed, China vows to run for Sheriff herself in order to rid the town of corruption. With the help of her former boyfriend Matt, as well as a mysterious Native American biker named Dakota, China quickly goes into action cleaning up the streets of the town she once loved.

CHINA O'BRIEN 2: China is forced back into action when her quiet town is once again ravaged by violence. Former drug dealer, Charlie Baskin, escapes from prison and sets his sights on those who helped get him arrested. Wrangling a team of criminals, Baskin arrives in Beaver Creek in order to take revenge on a man named Frank who helped put him away. When Baskin kidnaps Frank's wife and daughter, China must once again team up with Matt and Dakota in order to rid the town of criminal lowlifes and protect the innocent.

Co-starring frequent Rothrock collaborator Richard Norton (Mr. Nice Guy), as well as martial artist Keith Cooke (Mortal Kombat), Vinegar Syndrome is proud to present CHINA O'BRIEN and CHINA O'BRIEN 2 for the first time in the United States on 4K UHD, newly restored from studio supplied masters and featuring all the bone breaking action one can expect from Cynthia Rothrock.

Awesome early 90’s action/martial arts movies!

"Was pleasantly surprised with these two films. Really good action and skilled martial arts with good story on both films. Enjoyed them thoroughly and maybe even liked the second film a bit better than the first which kicked ass. The sturdy cardboard slip, slipcover and art are really cool and the 4k transfer of both films are done superbly and the extras are great. I recommend highly if you enjoy 90’s action films"

Great Packaging and care to the films

"The first China O’Brien reminded me of Roadhouse - a villain who has a whole town within his fist. While I knew the bad guys would ultimately defeated, that general plot, struggle for power is propelled the story. I wish the fights rose to the level as some of CR’s Hong Kong stuff but the choreography is solid. I love the original art on the internal sleeve"

Terrific Flick!

"The quality presentation of this awesome release in the VS collection is amazing! The films themselves are awesome and very engaging throughout! The peerless VS restoration process was on full display with stellar sound and picture! Thank you, VS, for continuing to lovingly restore and release so many wonderful films from every conceivable genre! You are keeping physical media alive in this streaming world we now live in! Highly recommended!"

Great staff

"It was it good experience? It was very nice to visit the brick and mortar store. I just wish it was. Organized in an easier way to find movies. So that I didn't have to keep asking the staff. It would have been nice. If it was categorized like alphabetical order. But it was categorized in a weird way"

Memories

"I remember watching these movies as a kid and was so excited to find them again. The quality of these are top notch."

Buster L. (5/5)

Action packed and fierce

"Definitely nice to see Cynthia rothrock in anything but this has been the first film I've seen her in where she's in a western setting. The action is a great time and the movies really give you that nostalgic 90's feel. Even though this is my first time watching these movies it really brought me back to the days of watching classics on my VCR as a kid. I definitely commend vinegar syndrome with all the great artwork that they put in with these titles and the reversible covers are absolutely fantastic."

Jack T. (4/5)

I liked both movies

"Some parts are very cheesy but the were some nice fighting scenes. Also the cover art is very nice."

Jelmer B. (5/5)

Excellent Packaging and Rothrock

"The packaging for these films is way beyond anything you would've expected. The movies are no lost classics but are solid Rothtock action flicks."

Viral T. (4/5)

"Wish i was one a thems chop suey fighterz"

"Did Barlow ever fart his way outta that tin can hell?? Officer doofy calling China Lil girl-don't. Movie got jokes but acting kinda stiff/corny from most of the cast besides Cynthia of course. (found out from the new interview extra with Cynthia that special effects man blew himself up early on in production so this impacted everyones mood). Kinda road house esque. Easy standout star here is Dakota. I had no clue this was sub zero in the mk movies, makes total sense. China 2: "member that old mama san? boy she loved Barker so much she'd drink his bath water. " I thought dudes in first movie were horny these guys saw into the future with streamer ho bath water sales. Probably mad horny cuz of stripper assassin who BTW does a new interview on extras which freaking wow funny stuff, spills some on set beans indeed."

Derek T. (5/5)
