Redeems Two Otherwise Tedious Genres
"I must confess to being over most new "queer horror" as a genre, as the best horror has always been a little queer and most recent attempts tend to be heavy-handed to the point of stupid and/or overtly political. Outside a few classics and satires, I'm not much for slashers either. But Sissy navigates both genres brilliantly. The characters are natural and believable and, while they speak the vapid cant of the millennial LGBTQ scene, the writing and performances thread the needle cleverly between sincerity and satire. In lesser hands, it would feel nihilistic, but the result is sufficiently self-aware and ironic that it strokes this Gen-X reviewer where it feels good. Along with Bodies Bodies Bodies, one of the best youth culture horrors I've seen this past decade."

"Overly cliche in parts. Good acting from the lead. I suppose the commentary is on chasing fame and likes? Building a life based on what others want? Hide your mental health/psychotic tendencies behind the camera? Not sure, but this movie left a LOT on the table. Some surprisingly nice gore in the last act, which goes a bit crazy train. Stick around if you’re in to that. Aside from main actress, Aisha Dee, not too much else going on here worth much."
