Vinegar Syndrome Ultra is delighted to present the 4K UHD debut of Simon Wincer’s cyborg action spectacular, D.A.R.Y.L. (1985), newly and exclusively restored for this release by Vinegar Syndrome.

When Joyce and Andy Richardson are offered the chance to foster a young boy, seemingly abandoned on the side of a secluded road, they take him in, treating him as the son they never had. Although he remembers his name is Daryl, everything else about his past, his parents, and how he ended up on that secluded road remains a mystery; Daryl cannot remember a thing! On the other hand, he quickly demonstrates incredible intelligence and the uncanny ability to learn any skill shown to him on the very first try. However, when a mysterious and sinister seeming couple arrive at the Richardson's home, claiming to be Daryl’s real parents, they and their adopted son are thrust into an incredible, high stakes cover up and fight for survival as Daryl’s actual identity is revealed, and his life put into immediate jeopardy.

Arriving at the height of adult-friendly family films, which offset their kid-friendly marketing with complex and at times violent stunts along with a pervasive sense of menace and danger, director Simon Wincer's (Quigley Down Under) D.A.R.Y.L. features an all-star supporting cast including Michael McKean (This Is Spinal Tap, Coneheads), Colleen Camp (Clue, Death Game) and Josef Sommer (Dirty Harry, Close Encounters of the Third Kind). Vinegar Syndrome Ultra proudly presents the 4K UHD debut of this action and suspense packed 80s video store favorite, complete with a brand new extended making-of documentary!

Fun sci-fi film

"Super fun kid adventure type sci-fi movie. The restoration is amazing and the artwork on the box set is fantastic"

Another childhood classic from VS

"Me and my brother watched D. A. R. Y. L. In the theater back in the 80s so it’s a childhood classic for me. I remember on opening day they had a promotion where you got to watch the film for free if you knew what DARYL stands for, which we heard on the radio. I always remember that. We also grew up with Rad and Cloak and Dagger that’s also on Vinegar Syndrome so that’s really cool. I haven’t watched it since the 80s and it still holds up and is a ton of fun. Love the old school effects and style. Thanks to Vinegar Syndrome I get to relive some of my childhood movie memories"

Still Holds Up!

"While not quite at the level of LUCAS, this does get surprisingly dramatic for a movie that could be about a robot kid being great at video games and destroying his enemies. Really been enjoying the oddball ‘80s releases that VS has been doing were enjoyed by the 15-and-under crowd."

SKU: VSU-007 BOX

"Enjoyable 80s kids adventure / Sci-Fi movie, but far from being my favorite VSU release. The packaging is gorgeous and there is plenty of newly produced extras. Maybe I couldn't really connect to the characters because I have not seen this before, as a kid. So there is no nostalgia at all. The Presentation and restoration are flawless of course. If you are a fan of DARYL, you need to pick this up."

Dominik F. (3/5)

AMAZING MOVIE

"Such a good movie in 4k"

Stranger Things back in time

"A sci-fi film from my childhood that brings a wave of nostalgia. It attempts a more family-friendly approach to AI, but remains fun."

Steven E. (5/5)

80s Classic

"This ’80s sci-fi favorite gets an impressive 4K upgrade that brings out the movie’s mix of high-tech intrigue and heartfelt charm. Paired with a nice selection of extras and premium packaging, it’s easily the best this nostalgic cult classic has ever looked on home video."

Brian S. (5/5)

I just love the Ultra

"I just love the Ultra line because of the packaging. The outer magnetic case with the amazing art work just stands out. For what you pay for these editions the money is well worth it. I don't buy every movie I buy the movies I love and enjoy so it's definitely worth it to me. For me it was an upgrade from my DVD too plus they used the same artwork on the sleeve."

Justino I. (5/5)

DARYL

"I have to agree with Gene Siskel on this one, the middle stuff with the government is sort of dull, and I wish they had stuck with the family and developed that. The VSU packaging its top tier as always and worth the five stars. Movie is so-so."

Samuel L. (5/5)
