We are beyond excited to introduce you to Vinegar Syndrome Ultra, a new Vinegar Syndrome sub-label focused exclusively on extravagant UHD/Blu releases of ‘major’ 80s and 90s titles that might not always fit into the regular VS milieu (although the first one definitely does!).

When he was a baby, Dar (Marc Singer, In The Cold Of The Night, TV's 'V') and his royal family were cursed by an all-powerful wizard named Maax (Rip Torn, Men in Black) to prevent him from rightfully ascending as the leader of his people.  Stolen from his parents and about to be sacrificed, Dar is rescued by a kind villager who raises him as his own. While training with his adopted father, Dar realizes the curse has left him with a unique gift: the ability to telepathically communicate with all forms of animal life. Years later, Maax returns with the help of a violent band of marauders known as the Jun to all but wipe out Dar's tribe, leaving him to fend for himself. Accompanied by his animal and human friends, Dar sets out on a quest of vengeance to destroy Maax and the Jun, and return peace to the land before it's too late.

Directed by legendary genre filmmaker Don Coscarelli (Phantasm, Bubba Ho-Tep, John Dies At The End) and co-starring Tanya Roberts (Sheena, Tourist Trap), John Amos (Coming to America, TV's 'The West Wing'), and Rod Loomis (Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure, TV's 'Stargate SG-1'), THE BEASTMASTER is a thrilling mix of fantasy, action, and adventure, with touches of horror. Photographed by Academy Award winning cinematographer John Alcott (Barry Lyndon, A Clockwork Orange) and featuring incredible production design by Conrad Angone, Vinegar Syndrome Ultra brings THE BEASTMASTER to 4K Ultra HD and Blu-ray in a brand new 4K restoration!

Can we get the sequel next ?

"Beastmaster was an easy enough buy. I got it cause its a great movie has new awesome artwork, is presented in a new fantastic upgrade in quality and has so many extras it made my head spin. A childhood fav that grew into an adulthood fav and I like that there are two versions of the film int he package."

Nice Package

"I was impressed with the packaging on this! This movie is an 80s classic, a staple on HBO, and with this release it's never looked better."

Sean H. (5/5)

Better Than It Probably Should Have Been

"For me there needed to be more Rip Torn. Marc Singer isn't a terrible actor so that was a bonus here, with always solid work from John Amos. And of course Tanya Roberts is Tanya Roberts."

Nick S. (4/5)

Marc gets ripped, ferrets & Rip Torn steal the show

"Well, that was a lot of bare flesh.  And not from whom I was expecting either.  Marc Singer got freakin ripped for this flick!  And everyone seemed to be wearing an outfit that could’ve fallen off with little effort.
The ferrets stole the show with insane amounts of cuteness, Rip Torn was enjoying the hell outta being a bad guy, and a truly epic climax worthy of the greatest swords-and-sandals movies was breathtaking to behold.
The movie is also surprisingly dark—the decimation of an entire village, the sacrifices of infants, the wholly unexpected death of a main character…I was expecting something about more family-friendly.  More enjoyable than I expected.  Yeah, I’ll happily watch this again.  But with maybe a beer or two next time."

Vijay M. (4/5)

Ambitious Matinée Fantasy

"Looks and sounds terrific. VS has done some serious restoration. Recommended to all who can remember the excitement of going to the matinée."

Hansi L. (4/5)

The Beastmaster

"Great movie and release. Amazing to see clear 4k scan. More 80's Italian barbarian movies would be great."

Matti J. (5/5)

Beastmaster is back

"A strangely classic fantasy of the sword and sorcery type with a great slip."

Raoul M. (5/5)

The reason why HBO is called HBO - fight me

"“Hey, Beastmaster’s on”. The reason why it’s called HBO. One of the best and cheesiest sword and sorcery movies of the 80’s in all it’s glory on 4K. Hell yes, the movie that also gave me a massive crush on Tanya Roberts. God bless the 80’s PG rating."

Steven R. (5/5)

its the beastmaster!

"good old beastmaster lol how can you not love this one?!"

Thomas C. (5/5)

Entertaining but messy

"Too bad Don didn’t have Final Cut; there’s lots of great set pieces here but the pacing is a mess. Still there’s plenty to enjoy. I’ve seen complaints about hot color on this UHD, but I thought it looked pretty good coming from an interpositive."
