Proving love is indeed the strangest force in the universe, Zach Clark’s oddball romance follows a pair of body-snatching aliens across America as they try to find both their place within this odd world and each other. Featuring narration by Sparks legend Russell Mael, this freewheeling science-fiction comedy is filled lo-fi effects and the heartfelt, emotionally astute exploration of what it means to find your own kind. For those familiar with Clark’s oeuvre THE BECOMERS is a smart addition; for the uninitiated, THE BECOMERS begs a deep dive into the filmography. A truly one-of-a-kind film that’ll make you feel closer to everyone in the cinema by the end.

Reviews
Intentionally awkward little sci-fi movie
"The Becomers is a quirky, low-budget sci-fi romance that mixes deadpan humor, body-snatcher horror, and surprising emotional sincerity into something genuinely distinctive. Its intentionally awkward tone and offbeat pacing will not click with everyone, but the movie’s charm grows as its strange love story unfolds. The Blu-ray presentation looks excellent, with strong colors and clean detail that complement the film’s retro-indie aesthetic."

"While not all the actors are equally talented in portraying our protagonists, the conceit works and Russel Mael’s narration ties it all together. I remember watching MODERN LOVE IS AUTOMATIC at a film festival years ago, and while the whole thing didn’t fully come together for me then, it made me aware of Zack Clark. Following his progression to THE BECOMERS has been a delight and I hope it’ll become an entry point for others."

Not quite my kind of Zach Clark
"I really enjoyed a few of his other pictures, Vacation and White Reindeer. This budget sci-fi body snatching alien picture didn't quite work for me. Just a bit too tame compared to what I liked about other Clark features. Cool, quirky looking slipcover image, and it's not a total dud. The booklet is a nice addition."
— Adam C. (3/5)
I Really Enjoyed This One!
"The slipcover was pretty cool, and the movie itself was a fun watch! The special effects were very good for a lower budget movie as well! The peerless VS restoration transfer process was on full display with stellar sound and picture! Thank you, VS, for continuing to lovingly restore and release so many wonderful films from every conceivable genre! You are keeping physical media alive in this streaming world we now live in! Highly recommended!"

Sci-Fi gem
"The Becomers works as a formally restrained but thematically ambitious piece of indie science fiction, using its body‑snatching premise to examine alienation, intimacy, and the odd rhythms of American life. Zach Clark’s direction favors understatement over spectacle, allowing the film’s lo‑fi aesthetic and deliberately awkward performances to become part of its commentary on dislocation and identity. Critics have described it as a “genre‑morphing gem” and “an understated, unusual love letter” to the human need for connection"
— Tarek E. (3/5)
Body Snatchers
"A bit different take on the body snatcher idea but didn’t hit all the notes for me."
— Nathanial P. (3/5)
Imaginative
"Fun low budget real low budget mama to tell a story that throws in the kitchen sink. Check it out"
— Bruce K. (4/5)
he Becomers
"Cool Artwork and slipcover. I always love the vibe of aliens coming to earth and discovering human culture. More innocent than Invasion of the Body Snatchers. Good sci-fi on a low budget."
