Dick Miller was the last of the great American character actors. Whether he was sharing the screen with Nicholson, DeNiro, Schwarzenegger or The Ramones, Dick has been stealing scenes since his screen debut in 1955. Every moviegoer knows his face, but few know his name and even fewer know his story - an aspiring writer turned accidental actor. Dekanalog is proud to present the 10th Anniversary Special Edition Blu-ray available for the first time in the U.S., loaded with special features and a special bonus film — “Starhops” (1978) — directed by Barbara Peters and featuring Dick Miller in a (what else?) scene stealing supporting role.

Reviews

You Don’t Know Me But You Love Me

"A great companion piece to this documentary is Caelum Vatnsdal’s bio You Don’t Know Me But You Love Me: The Lives of Dick Miller. There is an essay by the author included in the Blu-ray booklet. There’s also a bonus film included on a second disc titled Starhops. I’ve only watched the opening scene with Miller so far but that alone was worth it, mainly for Matthew Bright’s performance"

Andrew B. (5/5)

"Great documentary about a truly good guy. Everytime I watch a Joe Dante film, I know Mr. Miller will be in it."

Craig (5/5)

Has a bonus film!

"I was excited for this documentary and was very excited and surprised that it included A full length movie as an extra bonus!"

James S. (5/5)

Really good documentary

"So that's who that guy is"

Matthew S. (5/5)

Excellent film about an excellent actor

"That Guy Dick Miller is a heartfelt and entertaining documentary that celebrates the life and career of one of Hollywood’s most prolific character actors. Directed by Elijah Drenner, the film chronicles Dick Miller’s journey through over 170 film and television roles, from cult classics like A Bucket of Blood and Gremlins to blink-and-you’ll-miss-it appearances in genre staples. The documentary is rich with nostalgia, packed with film clips and interviews from directors and actors who admired Miller’s work. It’s not just a tribute—it’s a love letter to the kind of actor who made every scene better, even if he was only in it for a moment. While it doesn’t delve deeply into Miller’s private life, it offers a fast-paced and affectionate overview of his enduring legacy"

Tarek E. (3/5)

Busiest man in show biz

"Dick Miller was an ICON! Very entertaining documentary. Dick Miller had a role in almost every movie ever made (slight exaggeration). Great release!"

Patrick D. (5/5)

Love me some miller

"Great tribute, a little long and focused on his wife a bit but seeing him draw and talk about his career was great"

Richard A. (5/5)

The Face Behind a Thousand Roles

"That Guy Dick Miller is a warm, affectionate documentary that shines a spotlight on one of Hollywood’s most prolific character actors. With charm and grit, Dick Miller played everything from beatniks to gun shop owners, often stealing scenes with just a few lines. The film celebrates his legacy through interviews, clips, and loving anecdotes, revealing the man behind the familiar face. It’s a tribute to the unsung heroes of cinema—those who make the movies feel lived-in, even if you never quite knew their name."

Jimmy W. (5/5)

(Julie Corman) “Where’s the Dick Miller part??”…

"…. It’s here, right here. They’re all here! What a glorious trip down memory lane. Adore the set footage from SO MANY movies over the decades and there’s more in the special features too. Loved the wealth of friends and family interviews. His brother described his early years tenacity in a helluva tongue twister “Dick was the type of person that does not want to do what he doesn’t want to do. Not that he didn’t do what he didn’t want to do, but he knew what he didn’t want to do. He wanted to be an actor. ” Holy saints what a guy. See ya in the After Hours Uncle Willy! Ps. The accompanying movie disc of Starhops is pretty good especially the beginning with Dick strangling some rat bastard. Everyone gives it their all but the “French” chef is above and beyond wild."
