In 2015, Film Movement launched the reissue label Film Movement Classics featuring new restorations released theatrically as well as on home video, with an emphasis on films by auteur directors such as Eric Rohmer, Peter Greenaway and Takeshi Kitano.

An American expat joins a team of experts searching an abandoned Austrian farmhouse for historical Nazi documents that may be hidden within it. However, when they discover a secret buried deep in the home's bowels, the team is forced to confront an ancient, insatiable evil intent on consuming them and everything they hold dear.

Reviews

Solvent is a great, challenging

"Solvent is a great, challenging film; I’ve honestly never seen anything like it. The Blu-ray edition is worth it for the excellent location featurette alone, full of great production stories. A singular, unsettling film, and a strong edition for anyone drawn to truly unusual cinema."

JayG (5/5)

Interesting Stuff

"Solvent is a moody, low-budget thriller that leans into atmosphere and slow-building tension. The film takes its time, creating a sense of unease through minimalism and a grounded, almost experimental style. It’s not a traditional narrative, but if you’re into indie films that prioritize mood and tone, there’s something quietly compelling here."

Shawn M. (4/5)

This goes into some real

"This goes into some real bizarre territory. I'm going to have to watch it again to see how I feel about it."

Jeff S. (3/5)

What did I just watch

"I have no idea what any of this meant, but it’s hypnotic and interesting if not altogether cogent."

Solid release

"Great transfer and take on the found footage genre. Slipcover is ok and extras are minimal."

Brett C. (4/5)

This film actually terrified me.

"This film actually terrified me. Jon Gries does such a great job in the lead. If you like a good haunted house movie grab this bad boy. A very pleasant surprise."

"This is one hell of a horror movie. I honestly don’t know what I just watched, but I loved it. I’d highly recommend this film for people that are into out of the box horror movies. Packaging and presentation are excellent!"

Matt R. (5/5)

A wild time

"This fever dream of a found footage movie is something I didn’t expect. With the initial set up of the usual team investigating: I was thinking it would turn into some usual haunted house or monster type affair. But the frenetic editing and set up became something much more cerebral. The content about Austria’s sordid WW2 history bleeding into modern times is certainly a statement in itself. It’s hard to categorize this movie. On one hand, it’s filled with crazy dream imagery mixed with historical footage and narration. Another is this insane Lovecraftian dread like presentation mixed with some off brand humor and body horror bits. This is certainly a love it or hate it affair. I think it will hit better with further repeat viewings. Nice slipcover art and transfer."
