Satan Wants You tells the untold story of how the Satanic Panic of the 1980s was ignited by "Michelle Remembers", a lurid memoir by psychiatrist Larry Pazder and his patient Michelle Smith. Supported by the Catholic Church, the bestselling book relied on recovered-memory therapy to uncover Michelle’s childhood abduction by baby-stealing Satanists. Amplified by law enforcement and America’s Daytime TV boom, satanic rumors spread through panic-stricken communities across the world, leaving a wave of destruction and wrongful convictions in their wake. This film digs deep into the roots of moral panics and cult conspiracies, showing how these events still affect and distort our reality today.

Reviews

Great purchase

"I have yet to watch this, but the artwork and packaging is great and I have heard nothing but praise for the doc itself."

Line A. (5/5)

Satan doesn't want me, trust.

"I remember the era of Satanic Panic but I was much too young to fully understand how and why it happened. This documentary was fascinating and infuriating to rational thinking people. It just goes to show you that organized religion of any kind can be very compromised and harmful if the wrong people are wielding it as a weapon. A great time capsule of that era and the artwork is excellent."

Michael B. (5/5)

Scary documentary

"Scary documentary"

Panic!

"Great doc looking at the origin of the satanic panic of the 1980s. I loved the Kier-La Janisse book 'Satanic Panic: Pop-Cultural Paranoia in the 1980s' and this documentary covers some of the same ground while focusing on the memoir 'Michelle Remembers'"

Kev B. (5/5)

Satan wants me…

"Really interesting doc on how easily middle america is conned in to believing pretty much anything with the tight combination of fear and religion. Disturbing viewing and well constructed."

RICHARD L. (5/5)

People Wants to Believe

"A good doc on how media loves a good story so much that they help create mass hysteria over fairy tales. So many innocent people got hurt in the scam. People want to believe. Nice design and good essay."

Hansi L. (4/5)

Interesting Documentary

"Interesting documentary, cool slipcover"

Eric W. (4/5)

worth owning

"This documentary was not as good as I expected it to be, and it had a few agendas for sure, but it is absolutely interesting enough for a spot on the shelf. It was never boring. Not much more to say without spoilers. I'll definitely revisit it in a few years. Packaging: the slipcover is meant to look like a book but it seems like they put the pages part on the wrong side that was supposed to be the spine part, so on your shelf, normally the title faces right and the back faces left. This will have to be flipped to be able to read the spine. No big deal but I felt it was noteworthy as it could bother some of us collectors with OCD. So I just think of it as the upsidedown cross being the front and the title being the back, no biggy. The slip is still nice though for sure."

"Great!"

Richard L. (5/5)

Michelle may remember, but do you?

"This release of a fascinating document covers a wave of hysteria that swept through the country decades ago, but remains relevant today. The case is stripped to its bare bones and viewers are left with a compelling story of manipulation and exploitation. The disc comes in a slipcover that’s make even Satan proud."
