Located along a stretch of land in Fresno, California sits a row of historic motels. Once a vibrant destination for vacationing families and world-class performers is now home to sex workers, veterans, and more than 130 families.

Inside this world, the Shaw family grapples with housing insecurity and addiction while raising their young son Justin. Soon, the largest infrastructure project in U.S. history is unveiled: the California High-Speed Rail that will cut directly through Motel Drive. This years-long project promises a bold, new future for Californians — but at what cost for the less fortunate?

Filmed over a 7-year period, Motel Drive is a stunning indictment on America’s never-ending housing crisis, substance abuse and the real-world struggles of one family as they strive for the most basic of needs — a stable life.

Reviews

Quietly Brutal

"Motel Drive is a really raw and human documentary that avoids feeling overly polished or manipulative, which makes the story hit even harder. The film does a great job showing the exhausting reality of housing insecurity and addiction without turning the people on screen into stereotypes or pity cases. It’s quietly heartbreaking at times, but there’s also a sense of resilience running through it that sticks with you after it ends."

Shawn M. (4/5)

Under the radar documentary

"Reminds me of documentaries that feature Skid Row but instead of LA, it’s Fresno. It’s an interesting view of people living in run down dilapidated hotels in Fresno. Interesting film."

Eric B. (5/5)

"It’s cool that they not only make it possible for movies to reach an audience in physical form but they also go above and beyond with limited edition releases like this one. Super cool product. Would definitely order from them again. Much appreciated."

Zacharie (5/5)

Thought Provoking

"I didn't know what I was buying, I just took a chance and gave it a chance. It was much deeper than I expected, probably more than stuff I usually watch, but it's well worth a watch."
