Jaded police detective Travis (Simon Baker) arrives in the remote Australian Outback town of Limbo to investigate the cold case murder of a local Indigenous girl 20 years ago. As truths about the crime begin to unfold, Travis gains new insight into the unsolved case from the victim’s fractured family, the surviving witnesses, and the reclusive brother of the chief suspect. Shot in starkly beautiful black and white, Limbo is a penetrating modern noir and a poignant, intimate journey into the complexities of loss. Writer-director Ivan Sen, one of Australia’s foremost Indigenous filmmakers, deftly wields the police procedural to chart the impact of the justice system on Indigenous families in Australia.

Reviews
Australian Noir
"Limbo is a stark, slow-burning outback noir that uses its minimalist style to explore grief, racial injustice, and the weight of unresolved trauma. Simon Baker delivers one of his most restrained and compelling performances as Travis Hurley, a jaded detective reopening the 20‑year‑old disappearance of an Indigenous girl in a desolate Australian mining town. Shot in striking black‑and‑white, the film leans heavily on atmosphere—its barren landscapes and quiet tension often say more than its sparse dialogue."

Excellent film, Simon Baker is amazing here
"This excellent film utilizes a lot of quiet space, it’s a restless quiet - it moves slow and steady, but it keeps on moving all through. It features a silvertone color palette that is wonderfully effective in conveying its overall mood and tone. Its approach to racial inequality profiling is strongly subtle, it presents the tale and lets the tale finish up in between the lines. Simon Baker is exceptional, I didn’t recognize him from previous roles, brilliant performance. The extras feature several interviews, all engaging and informative. The package includes a booklet with wonderful photos and a very good essay. The slipcover looks really good on the shelf and the insert features nice interior artwork."

Great release
"Unexpectedly creepy Australian thriller I’d never heard of being in Australia, great looking black and white photography, and some nice extras"

Slow unravelling that'll break your heart
"Stellar performances in a strange picture. The thriller aspects are slow and drawn out, but the despair and isolation of rural Australia and the crimes committed against its people permeate. I wish it was a bit tighter overall, but that hardly a fault worth quibbling over."

Limbo
"Dark and suspenseful/brooding Australian film is always welcomed. Beautifully shot in a great setting. It is a slow burn and will probably leave a bitter taste in your mouth or a sort of sense of unfulfillment but I am pretty sure that’s the point."
— Justin S. (4/5)
A Quiet Masterpiece
"A movie with a cascade of complimentary features. . . . Awe-inspiring cinematography with unforgettable location shots- The motel of limbo has rock walls. . . interesting detective story with great acting- ALL the characters suffocating quietly in their own repressions and addictions-and don't forget that 1968 Dodge Phoenix! Brought to mind the first season of True Detective. I found myself thinking of the characters long after the movie was over. This was a blind buy victory for me. Love the slipcover and it comes with a nice size booklet."
