Details

This special limited edition spot gloss slipcover (designed by Black Coffiend) is limited to 2,000 units and is only available on our website and at select indie retailers. Absolutely no major retailers will be stocking them.

Umbrella Entertainment has been a 100% Australian-owned and operated distributor for over 20 years. Their vast home entertainment catalogue features an extensive range of Australian classic, cult and exploitation films restored under the eyes of the original filmmakers. All sourced from national archives, underground collectors and local basements.

Before Tommy Wiseau entered THE ROOM and James Nguyen took flight with BIRDEMIC, Ollie Martin welcomed audiences aboard HOUSEBOAT HORROR. Shot on video, banned in Queensland and distributed with the world's first 'Gratuitous Violence & Blood Gush Guarantee', HOUSEBOAT HORROR is pure homegrown hilarity and quite possibly the most quotable film in (SOV) cinematic history!

Starring a veritable who's who of 80s Australian talent including Alan Dale (NEIGHBOURS), Christine Jeston (THE YOUNG DOCTORS), Gavin Wood (COUNTDOWN), Des 'Animal' Mckenna (HEY HEY, IT'S SATURDAY) and John Michael 'Hollywood’ Howsen, HOUSEBOAT HORROR also features a slew of knockout song hits by THE UNCANNY X-MEN's Brian Mannix!

When a music video shoot on the seemingly tranquil Lake Infinity turns into smorgasbord of horror, death and blood-gushing mayhem, it can only mean one thing... ACID HEAD, a horribly scarred axe-wielding maniac with a grudge against interlopers, is loose!

directed by: Kendal Flanagan & Ollie Martin

                              Loony SOV Aussie horror

"People must have been high on something, be it love or drugs, because this is quite the mental horror film, shot on video and featuring an enormous cast that gets offed on the titular boat. Gore galore! This edition is packed with extras and the slipcover is better and more atmospheric than the film itself."

                              Tim V. (4/5)

                              This house floats

"this Blu-ray is a total blast for fans of budget slashers and Australian kitsch. The restoration is far better than the movie probably deserves, and the interviews are pure gold."

                              Kevin G. (5/5)

                              The houseboat horror!

"This movie has some whacky moments and I think that and the cast gives it it's charm and a great little Ozploitation flick. This release is stacked with incredible extras and a feature length documentary along side a nice little booklet!"

                              Evan D. (5/5)

                              Slasher on a houseboat, nice

"A cool 80's slasher. Adults instead of the usual teens and the set, a houseboat, ad some originality"

                              Brice D. (5/5)

                              Low-Fi Ozploitation Horror Excellence!

"For my full detailed review of Houseboat Horror, see my entry on Letterboxd: @M4N14K I viewed this film on the Houseboat Horror Umbrella Entertainment Blu-ray Limited Edition physical media released through Vinegar Syndrome and it is the same great premium level of packaging and presentation that you’ve come to expect from the generic releases of this boutique label. No other brand beats Vinegar Syndrome at the cardboard game and this great slipcover is no exception to the consistently fantastic artwork and component quality this company produces."

                              Michael B. (5/5)

                              Australian SOV

"Houseboat Horror (1989) is a low‑budget Australian slasher that has become a cult curiosity largely because of its reputation rather than its scares. Shot on video and released straight to VHS, it follows a rock band and a film crew who travel to the remote Lake Infinity to shoot a music video—only to be stalked by a disfigured killer lurking in the surrounding wilderness."

                              Tarek E. (3/5)

                              Houseboat Horror

"Fun disc with great special features. Loved the full length documentary on Australian stunt men included as a bonus. That was worth the price of admission alone!"

                              Adam K. (5/5)

                              Houseboat horror

"This was one of the few 80s slashers I’d hadn’t seen and this is why I love VS great transfer awesome release plenty of extras"

                              Hunter D. (5/5)

                              Alan Dale Gets It

"This one is often listed as one of the worst to come out of Australia, and that is exactly why I made the purchase. It features several actors and musicians that are recognized names in the territory, so when we see Alan Dale of Neighbors fame get his head cut in half. . . Houseboat Horror is mostly a Friday the 13th 1 ripoff. We get all the usual "leg stalkings" in the woods, the kills are all reminiscent of Jason kills (throat slashing, under bed murder, etc). And the kills are mostly pretty good for such a low budget. What makes this one so rough is the quality of the film and the hilarious acting and dialog. The film is shot on video, so if that isn't your thing you may have a hard time with this. But the acting is just hilarious. These characters, every one of them, is made out to be morons. The things that come out of their mouths, you find yourself blinking in disbelief, eventually turning to laughter. This is a hilarious film. And if you find yourself jumping into the Aussie horror fray, this one may or may not chase you off. But for those that genuinely love bad movies, this is a good one. In that quality realm of "so bad it is good", in my opinion."

                              Craig R. (5/5)

                              80s Aussie SOV Slasher fun!

"Umbrella brings this 80s slasher to disc and that's awesome. Picture quality is nice but remember it's shot on video, so do not expect HD blu ray quality. The reversible cover reflects cool VHS art. A booklet is included too. Slasher fans should check it out!"
