This special limited edition hard case (designed by Robert Sammelin) is limited to 4,000 units and is only available on our website and at select indie retailers. Absolutely no major retailers will be stocking them. This hard case is designed to perfectly hold both slipcovers for FREEWAY and FREEWAY II. It's available in two options:
  • Empty hard case (for those that already have the two slipcover'd releases)
  • The hard case + FREEWAY and FREEWAY II with slipcovers

From the twisted mind of writer/director Matthew Bright, two of the most depraved “fairy tales” ever put on film, FREEWAY 1 & 2, are now available together in this beautifully designed hard box (Robert Sammelin). If you're new to FREEWAY, these twisted takes on Little Red Riding Hood and Hansel & Gretel (respectively) feature all star casts doing the most demented things in the name of bloody revenge. Already own both films? You can still suit them up properly by purchasing the box itself!

FREEWAY
Vanessa Lutz' life is a mess. Her mother, a prostitute, and father, an abusive drunk, have been hauled off to jail. With nowhere to live, Vanessa has no choice but to move in with her grandmother. Hitting the road to granny's house, she quickly encounters the silver-tongued Bob Wolverton, who offers to give her a lift. However, what Vanessa doesn't realize is that Bob is the notorious I-5 Killer; a vicious murderer who preys on young, female hitchhikers, and soon finds herself face-to-face with a real "Big Bad Wolf." Using all her wits, she sets in motion a cunning trap which all comes to a grisly head in this modern take on Little Red Riding Hood...

Among the most notorious and jaw dropping "mainstream" movies of the 90s, Matthew Bright's (Ted Bundy) FREEWAY has earned a reputation as a neo-exploitation classic and critically acclaimed indie thriller thanks to its unhinged violence, sharply written dialogue, and general non-stop barrage on good taste, all wrapped up as one truly twisted fairytale. Starring Oscar winner Reese Witherspoon (Legally Blonde, Wild) alongside film and TV superstar Kiefer Sutherland (The Lost Boys), and co-starring Emmy nominee Bokeem Woodbine (Dead Presidents), along with acclaimed character actors Wolfgang Bodison (A Few Good Men), and Dan Hedaya (The Usual Suspects), plus a special appearance from Brooke Shields (Pretty Baby), Vinegar Syndrome is thrilled to present the worldwide UHD and BD debut of FREEWAY, newly restored in 4K from its long lost 35mm original camera negative and presented fully uncut with two minutes of additional violence and dialogue deemed too extreme for its original run!

FREEWAY II: CONFESSIONS OF A TRICKBABY
White Girl is a twisted teenage prostitute with a bad attitude and a nasty eating disorder, who's been sent to the slammer for 25 years. Her cellmate, Cyclona, is equally deranged, being a vicious killer. And, as like minds attract, the two are quick to form a truly twisted alliance. When the opportunity arises, White Girl and Cyclona manage to escape from the pen and embark on a non-stop orgy of violence and debauchery, all while hoping to make it across the border into Mexico in order to seek refuge with Cyclona's proxy caretaker, Sister Gomez. However, there's a big hitch in their plans as the good Sister isn't as "she" seems...

Somehow weirder, sleazier, and even more jaw dropping than its predecessor, director Matthew Bright's in-name-only sequel, FREEWAY II: CONFESSIONS OF A TRICKBABY regurgitates onto the screen with an unflinching barrage of gross-out-gags and adept social satire. Starring Natasha Lyonne (But I'm A Cheerleader, TV's Poker Face and Russian Doll) in one of her first, and most controversial, starring roles alongside Vincent Gallo (Buffalo '66), María Celedonio (Dragstrip Girl), and a rare on-screen appearance from filmmaker John Landis (An American Werewolf in London), Vinegar Syndrome is delighted to present the UHD debut of this demented reimagining of Hansel & Gretel, newly restored in 4K from its 35mm original camera negative, jam packed with extras, and looking so perversely crystal clear you can almost taste the perversion.

Man that wrote this was in Oingo Boingo

"Matthew directing and writing here burns Bright. Insane levels of dark humor and grungy dump livin along the Freeway. Truly a must see but I want to also see a short, by short I mean as long as possible, film about what's going on with Amanda Plummer in that apartment she's being interviewed in for special features. Danny Elfman score/interview very freakin cool. The sequel continues delving into poverty and its results but in a effective closeness. Everyone, especially David Alan Grier, kills it. If you're looking for the best Gordita tamales while South of the border stop by Don Chernobyls. Also, please don't miss Once upon a White Girl Documentary. So fk great!!!"

V/S box set - All about the Artwork.

"What better place to put your freeway collection. The artwork is awesome and completes the package perfectly with both slip cover editions fitting nicely within the sturdy outer box."

ANDREW E. (5/5)

Great Films

"Excellent 4K video and audio presentation."

Standout 90s films

"These movies are sort of an anomaly in the VS catalog, but the vibe of these movies fits right alongside everything else. While these are some of the more recent movies in the VS line, the scans still stand out and these are excellent upgrades for two standout 90s films."

Great boxset, i thoroughly enjoyed

"Great boxset, i thoroughly enjoyed both movies a ton. This box is oop of print but the individual releases are worth a buy."

One Great Movie and One Not-So-Great Movie

"Freeway 1 - 4 Stars. Gets really dark and intense, but counters it with a good sense of humor, featuring a well-written cast of fun characters to back it up, played by a bunch of great actors. Despite being based on Little Red Riding Hood, it’s really hard to guess where the plot will go next, which is a plus. I feel like it could’ve had a more solid ending, but I still really enjoyed it. Also, the music by Danny Elfman is great. I wonder if it was one of the last scores he did to incorporate a chorus, because he pretty much stopped doing that by the time it got to the 00s. Freeway 2 - 2. 5 Stars. The first Freeway did a good job of countering stuff that may have been too off putting on its own with humor, but this one didn’t quite manage to pull off the same thing. It’s also missing the great Danny Elfman theme you got the first time around. A bit of a disappointment. Overall, this package is worth it for the first movie, the special features of both movies, and the cool packaging (though, I wish it actually said the title on the front. It strangely only says it on the side. )"

Lucas B. (4/5)

Great packaging for 2 awesome films!

"I was so stoked to see VS release this beautiful box to house these 2 awesome films! I love when they do things like this. Great quality as usual!"

Marcus B. (5/5)

Some new favorites

"Got these because I loved the Ted Bundy film by Matthew Bright and now i've found two of my new favorite films. Took a bit getting into freeway 2 as it's a very different (more loose and silly) tone than the first but it's also great in it's own right"
