Good Argument to Watch the Mentioned Movies
"Movie: This was very interesting, but it didn't need to be 2 1/2 hours long. The pacing really drags by the time you get towards the end. Morricone's music absolutely holds this up the whole way through, and is certainly _deserving_ of the indulgent treatment, but I think as a movie this would've been better if it had been distilled a little more. Maybe cut out some of the concert footage at the end. I'm also not sure I would ever need to watch this a second time when I could just watch more movies Morricone worked on, or listen to the soundtracks. Extras: A little light. Nice to have the trailer of course, and the deleted scene was interesting (to me at least). Packaging: The cover does it's job, and the slipcover adds a bit of flare."

Legend Status
", Ennio is this epic documentary all about the legend Ennio Morricone, the dude who basically changed film music forever. It’s packed with cool stories, interviews with big shots like Tarantino and Hans Zimmer, and tons of his iconic scores that make movies way more epic. The film’s kinda long but totally worth it if you’re into sick soundtracks and wanna see how a true maestro worked his magic. If you love movies and music, this doc hits all the right notes."

More than the sum of its parts!
"A two-and-a-half hour talking head documentary usually isn't the type of thing I'm terribly interested in. I went in hoping to learn, and I did (Ennio's early life, musical teachers, and early career as an arranger especially are things I didn't anything about), however I was pleasantly surprised by the artistry of the film itself. Interviews are cut so that Ennio appears to be thematically in dialogue with other interviewees, whose perspectives on him as an artist differ greatly from his own effusiveness. It's a great portrait of that truly artistic personality: he has a drive to create, and even if he thinks his creation is a failure he embraces act of creation. I couldn't stop laughing at how he described scenarios of creating multiple options for directors to pick regarding soundtrack scores, and the filmmakers always choosing what he liked the least! The shape and movement of his life as a composer was pretty amazing, and Tornatore does an amazing job balancing the sweeping beauty of Morricone's music versus the personality of the man carrying the story of his life. I would never have predicted that I would be moved to tears twice. This movie isn't just for particular fans of Morricone's music, it's for music lovers and fans of artistic personalities."
