France made one of the weirdest horror movies imaginable 😂
"Devil Story is the kind of movie where trying to explain the plot almost makes it sound more normal than it actually is. You’ve got a stranded couple, a creepy castle, a Nazi-uniformed mutant, his mother, a mummy, a demonic horse, gore, folklore, and basically zero interest in behaving like a conventional movie. It’s pure fever-dream horror. What I like about it is how completely committed it is to the insanity. Even when I had no clue where the hell it was going, there was always some bizarre image or nasty little moment keeping me entertained. It has that rough, dreamlike European horror atmosphere where logic takes a back seat to mood and weirdness. The Blu-ray treatment is excellent too. Vinegar Syndrome restored it in 4K from the original 35mm camera negative, and the disc includes both French and English audio, a making-of featurette, a new director interview, commentary on select scenes, TV coverage, and the trailer. Does it make perfect sense? Absolutely not 😂 But if you want obscure horror that feels like somebody’s nightmare accidentally got turned into a movie, this one delivers."
