Residents of the placid suburban cul-de-sac of Pebbles Court have started receiving unexpected samples of a new and experimental vitamin, manufactured by a strange health spa named Vimuville. However, shortly after adding the mysterious green powder to their diets, users begin to experience strange and increasingly macabre visions, and worse, their bodies start to mutate, ooze, and eventually melt! As visits from the coroner to the sleepy street become a nearly daily experience, Detective Sam Phillips becomes increasingly suspicious of the goings on at Vimuville, but will he be able to uncover its diabolical motives before the whole of Australia is subjected to BODY MELT?

Writer/director/composer Philip Brophy's notorious slime-filled cult classic BODY MELT remains one of the last great Ozploitation films. Packed with gross-out gore effects, biting black comedy, and a throbbing techno-esque score, Vinegar Syndrome proudly presents BODY MELT on Blu-ray for the first time in North America, and in an all new 2k restoration sourced from the original 16mm negative, exclusive to this release.

Reviews

You get ooze and goo, who cares if it doesn't make sense?

"Synopsis: The evil vitamin corporation Vimuville starts mailing their new diet supplement to Pebbles Court in Melbourne so they can be their test subjects. What happens next is pretty gnarly. Hallucinations occur but that is the least of their worries as an array of disgusting things happen to the various residents of the suburb and others whom come in contact with the supplements. There is also a subplot of a former Vimuville scientist and his mutated offspring that is equally yucky and unlucky for a couple of the Pebble Court residents who get lost. Review: This is about as gooey and gross as it gets with numerous vomit-inducing scenes however a few of the gross out gags seem rather restrained like they were cut out by the censors or something. The story makes no sense but none of that matters because you are here to watch gross crap happen at every turn. Carnage Count 5/5 Sleaze Score 5/5"

"Beyond Belief"

"I remember seeing this back on VHS and this edition is quite a visual upgrade! The plot is basically three different episodes/narratives woven together to tell a story about corporate greed or whatever but mostly seems to be a showcase for some real gross-out special effects, which it delivers in abundance."

What just happened to me?

"OK, starting off, wasn't into this movie. But as it went, and the "story" fell into place. . . . . I fell in love!! This movie is insane, great effects, crazy set pieces, just a lot of fun. Can't wait to have it be a finale to a horror marathon for some unsuspecting friends."

Amy V. (4/5)

Sloppy fun.

"The Aussies like body horror and can deliver a good score."

Paris H. (3/5)

Goopy horror

"This is a fun watch for the looks of the special effects alone. The storyline was converted from an anthology to a non linear single story and works for the most part. Great audio and video quality with a handful of extras and great art for the reversible sleeve and disc"

Aussie Horror Classic

"This movie is over the top awesome in the best way. Lots of the 80s goop."

Body Melt

"Aussie madness. I was happy with my old dvd but this blows that out of the water!!"

Brain Melted

"I went into this film with very little knowledge of it, and came out with a melted body and brain. This is that perfect movie to throw on late at night during a marathon of the bizarre."

Bodies do melt!

"I was pretty excited by this movie -- big fan of goopy horror and the like -- but it didn't quite work or flow quite as well as I'd hoped. But it delivers on the title, and has a lot of great-looking imagery, practical effects, 90s interior design, old computer tech, that I really enjoyed. Thought the video quality was great (audio occasionally got tinny/echo-y for me, but I'm not sure if that's a setup issue?), and there's a lot of extras to dig into, including a long new chat with the director/co-writers/producer, and a fun vintage making-of. I've got the standard edition, so no slip, but this is one where I like the new art better than the original on the reverse. Fun that the older art graces the included DVD. Pretty great release!"

Joe V. (4/5)

Enjoyable

"The imagery was incredibly vivid and stayed with me long after the credits rolled. A truly masterful exploration of the genre's potential. The suspense was expertly crafted, keeping me on the edge of my seat. I appreciated the intricate details woven throughout the narrative. A truly unforgettable cinematic experience."
