More Comic Docs!

"Art Spiegelman: Disaster Is My Muse is a thoughtful and engaging portrait of one of comics’ most influential voices. Art Spiegelman comes across as sharp, reflective, and deeply passionate about both art and history. It’s an insightful watch that not only explores his work but also the personal and cultural forces that shaped it."

Great doc and insane amount of extras

"This has more extras than any release I can remember. Hours of interviews and speeches as well as a cool tour of one of his exhibitions. The documentary itself is extremely well made and flows at a good pace. If you are unfamiliar with this extraordinary artist and writer, this is a good introduction. Enjoyable for fans as well. Unfortunately, there will never be a time when strong anti-fascist literature will not be timely and important. Recommended."

Ed K. (5/5)

Great, but incomplete, portrait of an essential artist

"What a fascinating portrait of the great Art Spiegelmann whose work is just as profound as relevant as it was when it was first released. My only complaint, and it’s a minor one, is that there is nary even a mention of his work with Garbage Pail Kids."

Brennan B. (4/5)

Excellent documentary

"I really enjoyed this documentary when I watched it on pbs. Of course afterwards I immediately was hoping a physical version would become available, so when VS announced it was going to come out I immediately bought a copy. Art Spiegelman is a fantastic artist, and this documentary really showcases not only his work and talent, but his deep passion for comics and cartooning. It goes in depth with his graphic novel Maus as well, and is worth the purchase."

The master who brought us MAUS

"Excellent documentary focusing on the career of 60s counterculture comix artist Art Spiegelman. Art is up there with such contemporary greats as Robert Crumb, Gilbert Shelton, Vaughn Bodē, Robert Williams and S. Clay Wilson. A must have documentary that's up there with Terry Zwigoff's documentary Crumb (1994). Also unlike the original PBS American Masters premier of the doc, this bluray features the uncut version where Art talks about his drawing of Donald Trump featured as the festering, fly ridden, faciast piece of shit he is. Highly recommended!"

Nicholas C. (5/5)

Master of Disaster!

"I saw this when it premiered on PBS last year, but I am grateful for this incredible release! loaded with extras, as it left me clamoring for more. Spiegelman is one of my favorite cartoonists and this doc shows why. . . from Wacky Packs to Garbage Pail Kids, to Maus, this dude has done it all! Check it out!"

Douglas A. (5/5)

Keep Maus on hand

"great doc! you'll feel you could watch another couple hours of it. . and then you gey to the extras and you got +2hours more!! Have your edition of Maus on hand, you'll want to read it again."

Art Spiegelman: Disaster Is My Muse

"Interesting documentary about an important comics artist."

Oliver B. (5/5)

Bought it for the extras

"I saw the film at my local art house and loved it. I bought the disc to watch all the extras. The one with Chris Ware has some insanely bad camera work, but was a great talk. My only real complaint would be I wish the extra scene with the Crumbs was longer."
