While assisting on a dig, a construction worker accidentally destroys the final resting place of a demonic zombie, rousting him from his unholy slumber, and reigniting his taste for human flesh. Meanwhile, a group of teenagers have decided to spend the night camping in the woods for a Halloween hayride, only to have their partying interrupted with the arrival of an ever-growing army of bloodthirsty undead! Will anyone survive the night in one piece?

A lo-fi gore epic directed by actor and cinematographer Bill Hinzman (The Crazies), star zombie in the classic Night of the Living Dead, FLESHEATER (aka Revenge of the Living Dead) is a fitting tribute and homage to Romero’s chilling masterpiece, updating the setting to the late 1980s while piling on the gut munching, throat ripping, and limb tearing action. Vinegar Syndrome is delighted to bring this highly ambitious slice of regional madness to 4K UHD and Blu-ray, in a brand new, eye popping (and gouging) restoration from its original 16mm camera negative, presented in its cinematographer and producer approved 1.33:1 aspect ratio for the first time on disc, along with a host of brand new extra features!

Shameless spinoff of the Romero Living Dead films

"I remember seeing this on a German DVD many years ago so this revisit on Vinegar Syndrome's UHD was a way to rekindle with a film that gets many negative remarks. First about the transfer, it looks excellent considering the 16mm origins with a lot of fine grain on display. That's quite handy for all the darker scenes which are handled fine enough. Not that the film is a visual treat. The camera is used mostly from a standstill point of view, with some zooms here and there. It's really a "gets the job done" kind of thing without any artistry. A group of friends get together in the countryside to have fun and drink beer. Meanwhile some guy is using his tractor to tear out a tree trunk, which makes him uncover a grave chained up with a lock. He opens it and out jumps the first zombie from Night Of The Living Dead. No kidding, it's the same kind of make-up and played by the same guy (director-editor-writer-producer Bill Hinzman, which makes this seem like a vanity project). In any case, the poor farmer gets his throat ripped in graphic fashion which signals the start of the spread of the zombie virus. The rest of the movie is a parade of shuffling zombies killing people in the woods, in houses, all the while with a moody synthesizer score providing a threatening tone. Dialogue is sometimes almost hilariously stale and wooden, acting can be spotty at best and there are some odd happenings and continuity errors, like a character sneaking up to someone, scaring him and then leaving from the other direction. Or what about a girl running for her life in the woods, suddenly taking out her jacket mid-run so she can be bitten in her shoulder a couple of seconds later? You also get a sheriff running off to his car, getting inside and then 'forgetting' to just start the car and drive off, instead of letting himself getting eaten by zombies. Despite all that, this is actually quite the fun ride. All the farm land, woods and the cold atmosphere give it a real "friends having fun and making a movie" kind of feel. The gore is plentiful, messy and there's quite a lot of it. Shameless out-of-place nudity is also present, with 1 girl being killed after taking a shower by Hinzman and then having the zombie tear off her towel just for giggles. This resembles a SOV feature made by enthusiasts with the difference being it shot on actual film. It comes nowhere close to the work of Romero but in the right mind, it can actually be a lot of trashy fun."
