Dread Heavy

"A Grand Mockery is a raw, confrontational indie that leans into its gritty, lo-fi aesthetic. The film has an almost chaotic energy, creating a sense of unease that carries through from start to finish. It’s not an easy watch, but its intensity and unapologetic style make it a memorable one."

Awesome microbudget movie from Australia

"Was brought to my attention by Louise Weard via her podcast, and I'm happy to report that this film was very much up my alley. Feels like a mix of Clerks, Napoleon Dynamite and Lost Highway, and the Super 8 photography really lets the griminess of its atmosphere shine through."

Jonas V. (5/5)

Very Interesting, Good Film!

"Of course, I love the slipcover as always with anything VS releases! The movie itself was very good and quite engaging from the beginning to the very end. The peerless VS restoration process was on full display with stellar sound and picture! Thank you, VS, for continuing to lovingly restore and release so many wonderful films from every conceivable genre! You are keeping physical media alive in this streaming world we now live in! Highly recommended!"

Lowbrow Masterpiece

"Loved this movie about a man scraping to get by. Stuck in the continuous loop of life. He tries to make it work with all those in his life yet seems most content when drinking and waxing poetic in the graveyard with all the dead. . His journey into madness is touching and a joy to watch. Laughed out loud many times:) Loved the music choices throughout. Always happy to see a people playing records! The super 8 format looks like a high def super 8 and is perfect! Such a welcome change to all that slick digital streaming slop of today. For those who feel alone in the world and those who love early lynch and Guy Maddin, and even a little Cronenberg. Included in packaging is a booklet:) A total blind buy victory!"

Grand

"Far better than a great mockery, it’s a GRAND MOCKERY."

Paul S. (5/5)

A Grand Mockery

"Set in Brisbane and is a mockery, sometimes it works and at times it´s just dull. It´s a surreal fucked up fever dream, at times it feels like an aimless dream. Surreal visuals. Love the idea and the artwork. Shot on super 8mm."
