Edited by Cinématographe's Justin LaLiberty, this premiere edition features Mitchell Beaupre exploring the cinematic legacy of rebellious youth in film. Acclaimed critic Bilge Ebiri sits down with director and cinematographer Ernest Dickerson for an in-depth interview, while Robert Daniels revisits Girl 6, shining a spotlight on what he calls Spike Lee’s overlooked masterpiece. Also featured are curated New Hollywood film lists from Justin LaLiberty and Richard Brody. The issue is complemented by new artwork from Johnny Ryan and a comic on McCabe and Mrs. Miller from Nathan Gelgud.

"Vinegar Syndrome's hot new label is now a hot new zine. If you've gotten their releases, you know what this sub label is all about. This is basically one of the great disc booklets but instead of being tied to a specific film, it's a nice mix of essays covering all sorts of movies that match the Cinematographe mission statement. And it looks great too!"
"This Is Cinématographe feels like the perfect companion to the label itself, approaching American cinema with the same curiosity and affection that makes Cinématographe releases so appealing. The writing is thoughtful and knowledgeable without becoming overly academic, giving overlooked films and filmmakers the kind of serious attention usually reserved for established classics. What I particularly enjoy is the sense of discovery running through it, with the contributors writing as film lovers first and foremost and making you want to seek out movies you may barely have heard of. It also captures something increasingly rare in the digital age: the pleasure of sitting down with a physical film journal and simply reading about cinema. For anyone already following Cinématographe, this is an excellent extension of what the label is doing with the films themselves."
