When rookie New York City policeman Harry Griswold ends up in the middle of a shootout while attending an evening of kabuki theater, his attempt to save the life of a critically injured performer yields unintended consequences. The dying man bestows his supernatural powers onto Harry, thus rendering him “The Chosen One.” Suddenly finding himself sprouting paper umbrellas and covered in face paint, the formerly clumsy cop is transformed into a crime-fighting superstar, with the help and training of Lotus, daughter of the deceased actor. But Harry’s new gifts also come with a fresh calling as he learns that he alone has the power to defeat the ancient “Evil One” and foil his diabolical plans for bloodthirsty world domination.
From Lloyd Kaufman & Michael Herz, creators of The Toxic Avenger, comes a different kind of superhero: SGT. KABUKIMAN N.Y.P.D! Mixing high-stakes action, spectacular car stunts, monstrous mutants, and Troma’s signature style of madcap gore and hilarious hijinx, this outrageous late-night TV and video store classic features a who’s who of cult stars, including Joe Fleishaker (Troma’s War), Bill Weeden (Citizen Toxie: The Toxic Avenger IV), and Rick Gianasi (Robot Holocaust) as Harry Griswold. Vinegar Syndrome is proud to present this colorful live-action comic book on 4K UHD, newly restored from its 35mm camera negative and presented in its totally uncensored director’s cut as well as its more commonly seen alternate PG-13 version, and featuring an abundance of both new and archival interviews and BTS material.

Kabukiman-san Go!
"Troma attempts to go a bit more mainstream in this near-classic superhero oddity. Not quite as bloody or sleazy as The Toxic Avenger, but certainly quite weird! It's nice to see Uncle Lloyd's films getting the royal treatment from VS. Excellent 4k transfer, slipcover AND slipcase, plus a decent sized booklet, and a wealth of extra features!"

Sgt. Kabukiman N. Y. P. D. is the best spinoff in Troma history!
"For my full detailed review of Sgt. Kabukiman N. Y. P. D. see my entry on Letterboxd: @M4N14K Truth be Told: I’ll buy anything Troma that VinSyn puts out. I viewed this film on the Sgt. Kabukiman N. Y. P. D. Vinegar Syndrome 4K Limited Edition physical media release and it is the same great premium level of packaging and presentation that you’ve come to expect from the generic releases of this boutique label. No other brand beats Vinegar Syndrome at the cardboard game and this great slipcover is no exception to the consistently fantastic artwork and component quality this company produces."

Samurai Cops take on Troma
"This Troma oddity about a samurai cop is exactly what you'd expect from a Troma film. Great transfer, superior to any prior release, but also the low budget mess you'd expect to love if you're a true Troma nerd. At least the picture and sound are top notch even if this is low budget at it's finest."
— Joshua K. (5/5)
KABUKIMAN!
"Finally! I got the special edition for this TROMA classic! The packaging is stellar, and its the first limited edition slipcase I own. This feels like the best way to own some of your favorite movies! The transfer looks incredible and it makes me want to collect more TROMA films from VS as well as hope and pray they get the rights to Toxie! Highly recommend this release!"
— Paolo B. (5/5)
Classic troma
"This movie is pretty dumb - in a great way. It looks like a real movie, the acting is actually pretty good, but some absurd characters and situations remind you it’s still troma. Looks amazing on 4k, and the deluxe edition is quite full of extras."
— Adam L. (4/5)
Super fun Troma action
"I always loved Sgt Kabukiman man, so you can bet I had to get my hands on this beautiful 4K hardbox edition from Vinegar Syndrome. This is a classic from the Troma library. I'm happy to have this in my collection."
— Branden Y. (5/5)
Sgt. kabukiman NYPD
"This might be my favorite Troma movie it’s bonkers of course but has an awesome New York setting and a decent budget behind it great transfer and some fun special features"
— Hunter D. (4/5)
Fantastic Re-Issue
"The slipcover is awesome, as always with anything VS or their awesome partner Labels release! It is a cool movie that was a lot of fun to watch! I always love the unique VS service of allowing you to stack as many movies as you like in your cart during any release period and ship them for free! The peerless VS restoration process was on full display with stellar sound and picture! Thank you, VS, for continuing to lovingly restore and release so many wonderful films from every conceivable genre! You are keeping physical media alive in this streaming world we now live in! Highly recommended!"
— Paul K. (5/5)
loaded release for a sort
"loaded release for a sort of average movie. might be a little too much like toxie 2&3 lite. two versions and a bunch of features (the animated series pitch appears to have not carried over?) final movie michael herz co-directed with lloyd, the follow up unleashes full insanity that was sometimes beneficial for the movies but it's kind of a free for all with lloyd movies after that. this is the original movie with the classic troma car flip as well"
— Kris N. (5/5)
Colorful flick
"Super fun movie and incredible restoration. The treatment of this transfer is pristine, preserving all the beautiful bold colors."
— Gabriel Z. (5/5)
