Evelyn (Anna Chappell) runs the Mountaintop Motel, a cluster of ramshackle cabins nestled deep in the Texas countryside. But Evelyn isn't 'all there;' instead tormented by ghastly voices and visions which cause her to periodically lose her grip on reality, until one fateful day, lost in a bout of insanity, she unwittingly murders her young daughter.

Although the police rule it an accident, Evelyn's guilt soon overtakes her, plunging her deeper and deeper into a world of violent paranoia. When a group of travelers arrive to spend the night at the motel, Evelyn completely detaches from reality and, viewing her new guests as a threat, begins to terrorize and dispatch them one by one, with the help of her trusty sickle...

An atmospheric regional slasher from director Jim McCullough Sr. (The Creature From Black Lake), MOUNTAINTOP MOTEL MASSACRE blends suspenseful psychological drama with gory killings. When the best thing about your movie is the title, you're in trouble

"Synopsis: Elderly proprietor of the Mountaintop Motel Evelyn has spent some time in the Looney Bin and when she sees her daughter performing some sort of black magic she accidentally nearly beheads her with a sickle in a fit of rage. Distraught she somehow gets away with her daughter's murder, claiming it to be a gardening accident, and reopens the motel. Guests come in droves because the cost for a room is only $7 and there is a harsh storm that has washed out the road. That $7 price tag may actually cost the guests their lives as Evelyn's first attempt at a MOUNTAINTOP MOTEL MASSACRE is with members of the animal kingdom but when the critters fail she goes back to her trusty sickle to finish the job. Review: Unfortunately the best part about the movie is its name and the title card. Some okay makeup and a higher body count sort of make this tolerable but it's pretty bad with a very bizarre ending. When your sort of hero is a guy who's trying to con his way into a couple of young ladies' underwear you may have an issue with sympathy. Carnage Count 2/5 Sleaze Score 2/5"

Lorri is My Favourite Artist Now Too

"This motel is definitely not the sort of place you'd want to stay, but when you have to, from the outside it looks to be as good a place as any. A large tree blocks the folks from getting too far, and they have no choice but to check into this quaint little place. The motel has a rather charming aesthetic with some child’s drawings (Lorri) adorning every wall in every room and gosh, they’re just fascinating. She must have been a rather bright child and the hotel manager, Evelyn is obviously a proud mother. Sadly for her (good for us) Evelyn decides that she’s going to kill all her guests because why the heck not? I won’t spoil how she does it, because it’s quite the process that looks to have been in the planning stages for years. I dug this film quite a bit, plus the fact it comes with not just 1 reversible cover, but 2 is just so darn delightful."

Roach Motel Massacre

"Very ordinary slasher from the 80's. Might be fun to view with a group. . . but I watched it alone."

Fun 80’s slasher!

"Very fun 80’s regional slasher flick! Excellent transfer on the Blu-Ray! Kills are very well done- slice and dice variety with a memorable villain. Very happy that VS put this back on sale. Good pick-up!"

Brandon T. (4/5)

Major Brock

"Slow burn regional slasher that veers a little too safe and humdrum when I need crazy and over-the-top because there is some good stuff here that gets bogged down with poor pacing and weak writing. The setting is fantastic, and we actually get to know our victims before they’re picked off one by one. I wanted more Anna Chappell and Major Brock. Justice for Crenshaw."
