The first feature film directed entirely by Italian horror legend Lamberto Bava (A Blade in the Dark, Demons), the giallo-tinged, true-crime-inspired MACABRE (Macabro) offers a tense and grisly study of budding madness. Starring Bernice Stegers (Fellini’s City of Women, Xtro) in a riveting performance utilizing the haunting beauty of New Orleans, and featuring a screenplay co-authored by Bava along with the great Pupi and Antonio Avati (The House With Laughing Windows, Zeder), this unnerving thriller at last hits 4K UHD from Vinegar Syndrome in a brand new, absolutely gorgeous restoration of its totally uncensored original camera negative, along with a heaping assortment of fresh interviews and critical appraisals.

"Satisfying debut film from Lamberto Bava . A thriller/ Giallo that takes place in New Orleans in the beginning of 80s. Great picture and sound . Lots of extras and a cover that beats most of the similar releases makes this a big recommendation!"

A wonderfully atmospheric gothic horror
"A wonderfully atmospheric gothic horror film, and this release does it justice. The transfer is excellent, with a clean and detailed picture that still preserves the film’s original look. Definitely worth picking up, especially for fans of classic horror."

great edition
"This isn't my favorite Lamberto Bava film, but it's one of the first ones I saw back in the heyday of Anchor Bay DVDs & I think it's great. This set is truly gorgeous. The film looks fantastic, & what a treat to have 3 cuts, even if there might not be major differences. All the packaging design is beautiful. I'm truly pleased to have this deluxe edition on my shelf."

Great 4K upgrade!
"Wonderful 4K package! The transfer is a nice upgrade from the blu-ray. The artwork is great (maybe besides the front cover on the slipcase), informative extras, and solid essays in the included booklet. Recommend picking this one up!"

Lamberto Bava's Debut!
"This new 4k of Lamberto Bava's debut directorial effort is worth every penny and the wait! The new transfer looks immaculate and VS has adorned it with an abundance of supplements, housed in their customary sturdy slipcase, along with a nicely appointed booklet! Everything fans of this odd and gruesome giallo could ask for!"

A girl and her corpse…
"Awesome release and restoration of Lamberto Bava’s classic. Love the artwork! This release is pretty simple to spoil, so I’ll just say the film is a beautifully filmed Italian mystery mind-bender, albeit pretty tame by today’s standards, but still a great watch."
— Steven B. (5/5)
Lamberto my beloved
"This movie has a reputation for being very slow. And it was but at no point was I bored, there’s two characters here who are so bizarre and psychotic. It’s not one of my favorite Lamberto Bava movies but it’s still pretty good"
— Gustavo M. (5/5)
Making Love With A Head
"Finally a great release. This is one of my favorites and the type of movie to watch twice. First time for the shock value and the second time for the comedy elements. Nasty ass artwork, good restoration and so forth."
— David R. (5/5)
