From bloodier and sexier reimaginings of gothic tropes to shameless homespun ripoffs of international hits, 70s Spanish horror films offered wild and unforgettable delights for audiences domestically and abroad. Three key names working in the genre, Carlos Aured, León Klimovsky, and Amando de Ossorio, helped define and refine what genre films in Spain became most infamous for. Presented here is one key work by each auteur, all of which have been newly and exclusively restored by Vinegar Syndrome for this release.
In CURSE OF THE DEVIL (El Retorno de Walpurgis), director Carlos Aured's (Blue Eyes of the Broken Doll) second collaboration with star Paul Naschy (Frankenstein's Bloody Terror), lycanthrope Waldemar Daninsky is back; doomed to become a bloodthirsty werewolf as punishment for his family's involvement in centuries-old witch trials. Co-written by Naschy and focusing on his familiar blend of carefully constructed characters juxtaposed with gruesome gore, CURSE OF THE DEVIL has been newly restored in 4K. It is presented in its uncensored original version, which features extended nudity and bloodier violence as compared to the more commonly seen international cut.
In THE VAMPIRES NIGHT ORGY (La Orgía Nocturna de los Vampiros), director León Klimovsky (The Werewolf Versus the Vampire Woman) skillfully integrates a suspenseful vampire film with a tense survival thriller as a busload of travelers become stranded in an eerie village where, each night after dark, the townspeople transform into ravenous bloodsuckers. Featuring a cast of Spanish genre-cinema luminaries, including Jack Taylor (Female Vampire) and Helga Liné (Horror Express), this atmosphere-drenched drive-in hit comes newly restored in 4K and presented in its nude export version.
In DEMON WITCH CHILD (La endemoniada), one of the first and most shameless European "re-imaginings" of The Exorcist, director Amando de Ossorio (Tombs of the Blind Dead) revels in over-the-top trashiness as innocent tween Susan Barnes becomes possessed by demonic forces after a vengeful witch gives her a strange, cursed doll. From low-fi spinning torsos to late-night human sacrifices, career horror filmmaker Ossorio keeps the entertainment value high, enhanced by a cast of veteran Spanish character actors, including Daniel Martín (A Fistful of Dollars) and Fernando Sancho (Voodoo Black Exorcist), while the film looks better than ever, having been newly scanned and restored in 4K.

"Great transfers amazing sound, horror pictures for my movie collection. The Edition, the slipcase and slipcover are as always top notch, thanks vinegar and keep the amazing Job all of you are doing. I’lo be back."
"Perfect for what I’m looking for on an early Sunday morning. Great gothic vibes and the score is great. The collection this comes in from Vinegar Syndrome is really great. I know some actors are type casted but I wonder if Paul Naschy was just begging to play a werewolf. I would also let Maritza Olivarez stab me with a silver dagger. Artwork, Presentation and Sound are stellar!!"
"3 AMAZING MEXICAN HORROR GOTHIC TALES!THERE ARE SOME AWESOME PERFORMANCES & AMAZING SURPRISE EFFECTS! EXCELLENT VIDEO & SOUND ALSO IN THIS RESTORATION!"
"great restorations and three good examples of Spanish fanta-terror, with some of the best names from the time: Paul Naschy, Jack Taylor, Helga Line. . . plus three classic directors: Ossorio, Aured and Klimovsky . Top talent!"
"I feel like a lot of people are sleeping on this release when it’s probably one of VS’s best. Curse of the Devil is a fun werewolf film starring Paul Naschy, while the Vampire Night Orgy is a very cool vampire flick even if it lacks in orgies. Demon Witch Child is almost a bonus but is quite good as well. The discs also have a fair amount of extras and great artwork on the hard case and slipcover. If I had one minor complaint, I wish these movies were in seperate cases so I could seperate them, and with original artwork. I have all the Naschy werewolf films together and now this awkwardly sits beside them, but nitpick aside, this is a great release!"
"For my full detailed review of these films, see my entries on Letterboxd: @M4N14K Great packaging art, bad movies… let’s be honest. Looks great up on the shelf! I viewed these films on the Curse of the Devil Vinegar Syndrome Blu-ray Limited Edition physical media release and it is the same great premium level of packaging and presentation that you’ve come to expect from the generic releases of this boutique label. No other brand beats Vinegar Syndrome at the cardboard game and this great slipcover is no exception to the consistently fantastic artwork and component quality this company produces."
"I can never pass up a horror movie involving vampires, werewolves and monsters, especially ones coming from Italy. The slipcover art is amazing"
"Mostly got for the Paul Naschy film but will happily watch the rest, love some Spanish horror. Also thanks for sending the replacement disc along with"
"3 awesome Spanish horror flicks from the 70’s, it’s how I remember horror, bravo VS !! Awesome packaging too !!"
"Great presentations of fun Eurohorror goodness! Nascy performances are always a hoot for how arch they are, and while a few more extras would have been nice, this set is a must-own for any Spanish horror buffs!"
