Molly Stewart (Donna Wilkes, Jaws 2) is at the top of her class at the prestigious private high school she attends. But what her classmates and teachers don’t know is that Molly survives by working nights as a prostitute on Hollywood Blvd, in the company of her friends: a worldly transvestite, a retired cowboy movie star, and her cantankerous but kind-hearted landlady. However, her world begins to fall apart when a depraved, necrophiliac serial killer begins targeting LA’s streetwalkers. As more and more women fall victim to this vicious killer, Molly realizes that it’ll be up to her and her friends to take on the maniac before they too find themselves in his murderous sights…

Mixing brutal, slasher styled killing scenes with the sweetness of an afterschool special, Robert Vincent O’Neil’s (Blood Mania, Wonder Women) ANGEL is one of the seminal exploitation films of the early 80s. Co-starring Dick Shawn (The Producers), Rory Calhoun (Motel Hell), Susan Tyrrell (Cry Baby), Cliff Gorman (All That Jazz), and featuring beautiful cinematography by Andrew Davis (The Fugitive) along with a memorable score by Craig Safan (Cheers), Vinegar Syndrome proudly brings ANGEL to Blu-ray, newly restored in 4K.

Reviews

80s Exploitation Classic

"Fantastic 80s exploitation, given surprising depth by its excellent characters, particularly those played by Susan Tyrell and Dick Shawn. I wasn't big on the sequels, but this one is a stone-cold classic. An essential VS release."

Kyle S. (5/5)

Angel is a very good 80's slasher or almost slasher flick

"a fair amount of naked chicks and mayhem in the streets a serial killer on the prowl and no hooker is safe, the best in the 3 movie series."

Kevin L. (5/5)

Fun exploitation movie

"Pretty solid exploitation movie with a decent budget for the time. Entertaining the whole time and with some solid twists to the plot. Manages a fine balance of pity for the main character while still being a fun movie"

James J. (4/5)

Not What Baseless Memes Would Have You Believe

"Decided to finally watch this after seeing a gen-z meme complaining about it based on the DVD box. It’s actually very stylish, over-the-top and fun. It’s about an underage prostitute and her misfit group of friends facing off against a serial killer. I’m sorry, but that’s awesome. Of course, that could go in a very questionable direction, but in this case you never once actually see Angel as she’s doing her thing with a client, cause that’s not the point of the movie, so you can calm down, people. It’s a thriller with a lot of personality."

Lucas B. (4/5)

Oh, go suck an egg

"Two words, egg sucking. Ok a few more words great cinematography, evoking of fond memories, and the complete package. Surprisingly sweet despite the tag line, I mean yeah she's posing as a prostitute,. but that doesn't matter"

Anthony H. (5/5)

Angel on the streets bad guys look out.

"80's classic. Great picture upgrades. A good packaging. A good night in with Angel. Not to be confused with the vampire🧛‍♂️ one."

John M. (5/5)

Good exploitation

"Good exploitation movie about a schoolgirl with a secret life on the streets. Angel has to contend with a killer targeting girls on the street with help from friends met on the job and a police lieutenant. Characters are unique and interesting. PQ is great."

Jeff T. (4/5)

Absolute classic

"Great transfer for this quintessential, but strangely wholesome exploitation film"

Arthur C. (5/5)

Wholesome sleaze

"Sleazy story done in a wholesome way, it looks like an 80s family flick. The actors are great, everybody involved does a great job and in the end it's a very entertaining movie about the exploits of an underage prostitute and a necrophiliac serial killer. Never had exploitation been done with such a good taste."

Rodrigo S. (5/5)

Serial killer glue

"I remember seeing the poster for this flick in the NYC subways when I was too young to watch it. That has been remedied. Amazing work by Susan Tyrrell and Rory Calhoun, and a serial killer to glue it all together"

Matthew C. (4/5)
