Since 2004, Bleeding Skull has explored otherworldly cinema through reviews, books, and home video releases. We shine a light on independent genre films that have flown under the radar but deserve to be seen by all. Fangoria has called Bleeding Skull “The go-to encyclopedia for trash, bizarre, and shot-on-video cinema,” while Vice referred to it as “like a fever dream glimpse into parallel worlds". Welcome to Long Island's answer to RE-ANIMATOR. THE SOULTANGLER tells the story of Dr. Anton Lupesky, a rabid genius who develops a drug that allows users to inhabit corpses . . . and embark on gore-soaked murder-sprees. Shot on 16mm in basements and garages by director Pat Bishow on Long Island, this is body horror bliss that's filled with dreamlike imagery, wanton dismemberment, and an earnest devotion to storytelling in the spirit of H.P. Lovecraft.

SKU: BS-007

"My first Bleeding Skull purchase and I was not disappointed. This is one crazy SOV flick with some nasty effects and tons of low budget charme. Picture quality is suprisingly strong. I didn't expect that. The extras include the shorter director's cut, an auido commentary with director Pat Bishow, a Q&A from Drafthouse screenings ,some trailers and a whole bonus movie by Bishow. And even that has a commentary! Sadly no subtitles though. The artwork and especially the slip cover are awesome. Love it!"

Your mileage may vary? . . .

"I had trouble finding and appreciating the charms of this one. I thought I was going to love it, and within 15 minutes I was debating turning it off; I made the wrong choice. Maybe a happy medium would've been to watch the included 62-min director's cut? Somehow both tiring and unlikeable -- but it seems like I'm in the minority on this one! Highlights were a couple of quick effects shots, I guess how overwrought the backstory was, and mostly the fantastic slip/case art (although, being the same, kind of makes the slipcover a little superfluous?). I disliked the experience of watching this movie so much I didn't even give the bonus extra film a shot. Good luck."

It was OK

"I think I’ve watched enough SOV at this point, that I’m a little burnt out. This one was decent, but definitely not one of Bleeding Skull’s better offerings. Nice low-budget effects. Good disc extras along with a bonus movie. Commentary was good. I do enjoy listening to makers of SoV talk about their work."

“I Just Love Horror Movies”

"How can you not have a smile on your face when you picture people in Long Island making gallons of fake blood and dismembered body parts? I’m pretty sure the above quote paraphrased from something that THINGS (1989) director Andrew Jordan once said, or maybe it was someone else. Bleeding Skull continues to deliver some fun."

Maxim P. (3/5)

You'll be waiting for the soul tangling

"Very upset to be made to wait 75 minutes for any soul tanglin, but then when it came out ruled so hard that I have to give it it's due. Great soundtrack, no one remembering a single line of dialogue and lots of goop"

Dave C. (4/5)

Very Fun Flick!

"This particular release features an awesome slipcover and a ton of entertaining action and horror! The texture of the film is rather unique and quite engaging to me! The peerless VS restoration process was on full display with stellar sound and picture! Thank you, VS, for continuing to lovingly restore and release so many wonderful films from every conceivable genre! You are keeping physical media alive in this streaming world we now live in! Highly recommended!"

Paul K. (5/5)

Shoe string Re-Animator

"With a slipcover like that I couldn’t turn down the chance to pick up this little gem! A very low budget Re-Animator-esque horror that delivers an interesting story about a drug that allows its user to inhabit the bodies of the recently deceased. If you love SOV horrors on a budget that deliver originality, glorious visual effects, and plenty of hammy acting then this is an absolute treat that’s worth your time and attention. A glorious package from Bleeding Skull. And my god just check out that artwork! Just stunning"

Nathan H. (5/5)

While the delivery took a

"While the delivery took a little while, the correspondence via email with the company was professional and kid. The product itself was packaged well and the the DVD did not skip. Thank you!"

Nick D. (5/5)

SOV Classic

"The Soultangler is a deliriously DIY slice of shot‑on‑video horror that embraces its microscopic budget and turns it into a kind of gonzo charm. Built around a mad scientist who invents a drug that lets souls leap into corpses, the film mixes Re‑Animator‑style ambition with the scrappy energy of Long Island basement filmmaking. Its plot is chaotic, but that chaos is part of the appeal: the movie feels like a late‑night VHS fever dream, stitched together with enthusiasm, gore, and a genuine love of genre weirdness."
