The American Genre Film Archive (AGFA) represents the world's largest theatrical catalog of exploitation cinema. Their home video line presents a diverse selection of movies, ranging from new preservations of classics from the vast library of Something Weird to the wildest in shot-on-video (SOV) titles. Vinegar Syndrome’s sister company, OCN Distribution, is thrilled to be representing this diverse and unique home video line!

Let's get w-i-i-ild! SUPER SOUL BROTHER AND THE FILMS OF RENE MARTINEZ, JR. collects the anti-dimensional filmography of enigmatic, Miami-based DIY filmmaker Martinez for the first time on home video. In SUPER SOUL BROTHER (1978), naive wino Steve ("Wildman" Steve Gallon, PETEY WHEATSTRAW) is injected with a serum that gives him superhuman strength, a catch phrase ("I'm w-i-i-ild!"), and a quest to battle the mad scientists and crooks who made it all possible. THE GUY FROM HARLEM (1977) finds gritty private investigator Al Connors (Loye Hawkins) locked in mortal combat with crime kingpin Big Daddy in an explosion of cocaine, kung-fu, and funk jams. Finally, ROAD OF DEATH (1973) follows local rockers the Joe Banana Band and friends (including Carol Conners and Jack Birch, future parents of Thora "GHOST WORLD" Birch) as they seek revenge against a biker gang for their hideous crimes—complete with a shocking climax that predicts the final scene in Quentin Tarantino's DEATH PROOF. Only in Florida.

Reviews

Fascinating Collector’s Release

"A really interesting release with strong archival value and a lot of personality. The presentation gives the films a respectful showcase, and the set is a great way to discover this corner of cult cinema. A worthwhile addition for collectors."

Justice For Dr. Dippy

"What an incredible upgrade from the original AGFA DVD. The picture quality can only improve so much based on what they’re having to work with, but I had no idea about Rene Martinez, Jr. ’s other films, and for that alone this release is worth the purchase for those weird few who own that disc but have yet to purchase this one."

Maxim P. (4/5)

One good one, and a couple bottom of the barrel features

"The main picture, we'll call it "The Six Thousand Dollar Gentleman Of High Melanin Count" is very funny. It's amateurish, but there are some sexy women, a dwarf doctor whose girlfriend looks like the type Russ Meyer appreciated, and it's generally outrageous. The other two films are pretty bottom of the barrel for their respective genres (blaxploitation, biker roughie) though they aren't completely without merit. The insert cards are a nice touch. I'll put on the main feature again when I need a laugh sometime."

Another review. . .

"If you're a student of Bad-Good cinema like I am, "Super Soul Brother" and "The Guy from Harlem" will not disappoint ( I still have to view "Road of Death" ). The menu page also includes a charming little song "6000 What?" by the Saxton Kari Orchestra with vocals by a kid version of Curtis Mayfield. The restoration with the colours, contrast and the sound is superb. That is to say compressed rich and gritty."

Jamie S. (5/5)

Superb Triple Feature!

"The slipcover of this awesome triple feature was very cool! This collection of 3 flicks is loaded with lots of older blaxploitation goodies and is definitely NOT to be missed by fans of that awesome genre! The peerless VS restoration process was on full display with stellar sound and picture! Thank you, VS, for continuing to lovingly restore and release so many wonderful films from every conceivable genre! You are keeping physical media alive in this streaming world we now live in! Highly recommended!"

Paul K. (5/5)

Rad collection of odd films with different genres

"A collection of 3 films that entice the fans of biker movies and blaxploitation, all made by one René Martinez Jr. The slipcover looks great, the presentation is amazing, the acting is shodden but the fun remains in all 3 films. Great stuff by AGFA again!"

Tim V. (4/5)

A great little collection of

"A great little collection of flicks. Wildman Steve at his finest."

Jeffrey W. (5/5)

WOW. . . just wow.

"This one is def not for the easily offended or people who want high art movies. This is super gritty and low fi and very un PC so if you have thin skin. . . pass over now. This is a great time capsule to a different era of film. It is a real oddity in the Blackspoitation genre for sure. This is even more low budget than some of those so just a heads up so you know what you are in for. Raunchy . . . yes, offensive. . yes. . . hilarious. . yes. This film has spirit and great extras as well."
