Since 2004, Bleeding Skull has explored otherworldly cinema through reviews, books, and home video releases. We shine a light on independent genre films that have flown under the radar but deserve to be seen by all. Fangoria has called Bleeding Skull “The go-to encyclopedia for trash, bizarre, and shot-on-video cinema,” while Vice referred to it as “like a fever dream glimpse into parallel worlds". Existing outside the boundaries of reality, House of Dreams is a lost chapter of mid-century, avant garde horror from director Robert Berry. The story follows Lee (Berry), a frustrated author who is plagued by recurring nightmares centered around a haunted house. Shot on gritty 16mm film stock in Indiana and never legitimately distributed, House of Dreams is a sincere, abstract, and melancholy haunting that would feel right at home on a triple feature with Meshes of the Afternoon and Carnival of Souls.

House of Dreams

"A true gem of homemade horror that has some outstanding moments of artistry and atmosphere. The best feature is by far the new soundtrack as the og is borderline unlistenable, but the new version respects the atmosphere of the original while making it a much more palatable experience"

Fantastic release Bleeding Skull always

"Fantastic release Bleeding Skull always blowing it out the water. Crazy that Robert Berry wrote, directed, acted in and shot this gem (did I forget anything else?). I love regional films so this one is one fantastic package. Great special features too with a nice audio commentary and a triple VHS feature of Meshes Of The Afternoon and Carnival of souls. Great purchase!"

Bryan K. (5/5)

Good DIY indie classic

"Dreamlike film with the author plagued by nightmares of a haunted house. The artwork on the slipcover showcases it as throwback style TV movie. Bleeding Skull adds in interviews and a history of the film."

Timothy D. (5/5)

A very intriguing, engaging "lost" film

"Amazing low-budget film! Moody and engaging, with a *lot* of talking, in stilted accents, but also a lot to say. Guys are cute, gals are pretty, which always helps. The storylines do intrigue, they veer in unexpected places, though not severely. Pacing is a problem - it drags quite a bit, each scene should be shorter or, at least, do more. The use of dream sequences versus reality works effectively, and the organ soundtrack is a bit intrusive overall, though actually appropriate. A definite cousin film to "Carnival Of Souls", though it's far lesser in its impact. A very good effort, though, with natural actors whose expressive faces carry the narrative overall. EXTRAS are quite wonderful, the ‘alternate score’ brings an entirely different eerie feel to the watching experience. Package includes a nice booklet with a thorough, informative historial essay about the film and the setting it was created in."

An okay film but the extras are pretty great

""A" for effort. An interesting curio unearthed by the fine folks at Bleeding Skull, but there's unfortunately not much to it. I recommend watching it with the alternate music score, which is made up of ambient drone sounds sourced from K-Mart in-store tapes."

It'll Require A Second Viewing

"This movie was so strange that I went into a trance and nodded off! The dialogue was bizarre and stilted, which made the whole thing somewhat surreal. It's difficult to tell if that's an artistic choice or just dreadful acting, but either way it delivers an effect of sorts. The score on the original was nauseating, but as I'm sure it was zero-budget they likely had no choice in that. I had a quick flick through the alternative version on the disc with a more recent score added and that sounded a lot better, so I'll watch that version next. Finally, there are three films and a ton of adverts all bundled into one all-nighter feature on the extras. Superb value for money! So just based on that I'm giving it four stars, even if I don't love the main feature upon second viewing."

Another excellent Bleeding Skull

"Thanks for beaming this little-seen regional horror into our own bleeding skulls. I can’t get enough. Carnival of Souls and Meshes of the Afternoon are nice additions too for the triple feature. Carnival of Souls is my favorite film of all time, after all."

Andrew P. (5/5)

But what if the guy you hate dreams?

"A really bad husband who ignores his wife has a bunch of dreams. There's some real funny dialogue up front. The further it went, the more it lost me. It's a unique Bleeding Skull release. Hopefully, they have some others coming kind of like it, but much better."

Alex B. (3/5)

"Another superb release from Bleeding Skull. Very atmospheric, slow-burn horror. Looking forwsrd to viewing the Midnite Dream Theatre VHS mixtape. Superb slipcover snd srtwork."
