Founded in 2002 as one of the first-ever subscription film services with its DVD-of-the-Month Film Club, Film Movement is now a North American distributor of award-winning independent and foreign films based in New York City. In 2015, Film Movement launched the reissue label Film Movement Classics featuring new restorations released theatrically as well as on home video, with an emphasis on films by auteur directors such as Eric Rohmer, Peter Greenaway and Takeshi Kitano.

After more than two decades of exile in Hollywood, master filmmaker Fritz Lang triumphantly returned to his native Germany to direct this lavish two-part adventure tale from a story he co-authored almost forty years earlier. Called to India by the Maharajah of Eschnapur, architect Harald Berger (Paul Hubschmid) falls in love with beautiful temple dancer Seetha (Debra Paget), who is promised to the Maharajah. Their betrayal ignites the ruler's wrath, and the lovers are forced to flee into the desert for a series of spectacular adventures. Featuring breathtaking location photography and nail-biting suspense, this epic is highlighted by Paget's erotic temple dance, a battle to the death with a man-eating tiger, sandstorms, a cave of lepers, and a bloody palace rebellion. Together these films provide a cinematic link between classic silent serials and the modern action thrills of Indiana Jones and The Mummy. Previously available in America as "Journey to the Lost City," a radically condensed 90-minute version, these exotic masterpieces are presented in this 2-disc boxed set newly restored to their original splendor.

Long Live Lang

"The Indian Epic is a sweeping, visually rich adventure that feels grand in both scale and storytelling. Fritz Lang brings a sense of precision and atmosphere, blending romance, intrigue, and spectacle in a way that feels classic and immersive. It’s a bit old-school in its pacing, but the lush visuals and epic scope make it a rewarding watch."

Beautiful scenery

"The scenery amd stunning Debra Paget keeps your interest. Be aware this is back in the day when whitw actors would play other races in brown face ans it’s jarring. The prince is a jerk but at least seems to have some layers ans they try to explain him a bit. The male hero is a douchbag who pushes his way into a temple and is very much disrespectful of the culture. the hero actor is also dull as a wet sock. Still I did like it. Also if you like big boobed statues this is the movie for you."

Bruce K. (4/5)

Epic presentation

"A favorite of mine I have not seen in decades. Great artwork on this 2 disc release, including a booklet. I’ve never seen the film look better. Only criticism, would have been nice to see this release upgraded to 4K versus older Film Movement release."

Debra Paget. . . my God what a

"Debra Paget. . . my God what a beauty. I have no idea why she isn't a legendary beauty like a Marilyn Monroe or Brigitte Bardot. We get to see her do alot of dancing which I'm totally fine with. A great double feature directed by the great Fritz Lang and they are both so pulpy and action packed. Gorgeous colors too. So happy to finally get a chance to watch this one. Way underrated both of them. Great release by Film Movement."

Not my kind of thing

"Great looking films but not really my kind of thing. Slipcover looks great!"

Fritz Lang's Indian Epic Film Movement Bluray Collection

"Film Movement Classics has been doing a great job restoring and releasing some great obscure gems. This collection goes deep into their catalog. Here they release the original full length jungle epics made by Fritz Lang after he returned to Germany. These are a lot of fun and are very reminiscent of the Indiana Jones films that would be released over 20 some odd years later. The restorations look incredible. Film Movement did an incredible job. The set comes with a great documentary, a fun video essay and a great commentary. The OCN slipcover is gorgeous too. For sure check this one out."

Adventure awaits

"Both movies together make up one story, that hinges on the captivating power of Debra Paget’s dancing. She succeeds. The sets and locations in this film are also amazing and beautifully shot. Well worth a watch."

Jason B. (5/5)

The Tiger of Eschnapur and

"The Tiger of Eschnapur and The Indian Tomb—often bundled as Fritz Lang’s Indian Epic—are the kind of films where the home video conversation almost rivals the movies themselves. People usually talk about the features: restorations, extras, and how well the set presents Lang’s late-career spectacle. On a double bill, they play beautifully—designed as one continuous adventure, full of pulpy intrigue, ritual, and visual grandeur. The pacing is deliberate but purposeful, building a sense of scale that pays off across both halves. The track matters too. A strong audio presentation brings out the score’s sweep and the film’s sense of exoticized danger, which is central to the experience. Not Lang at his most psychologically complex, but as a lush, escapist epic—and especially as a curated release—it’s easy to recommend."
