Since 2004, Bleeding Skull has explored otherworldly cinema through reviews, books, and home video releases. We shine a light on independent genre films that have flown under the radar but deserve to be seen by all. Fangoria has called Bleeding Skull “The go-to encyclopedia for trash, bizarre, and shot-on-video cinema,” while Vice referred to it as “like a fever dream glimpse into parallel worlds". Shot on Super 8 film and edited on decaying VHS tapes in Chicago, the experimental horror movies of late musician and filmmaker J.T. IV (aka John Henry Timmis IV) feel like an unholy alliance between David Bowie and Charles Manson. CANNIBAL ORGY AND THE FILMS OF J.T. IV is an historical archive that collects Timmis's collage-like films for the first time on home video. This includes CANNIBAL ORGY—a Satanic panic ode to BLOOD FEAST, Lucio Fulci, and stoned glam rock. It does not include THE CURE FOR INSOMNIA, Timmis's 85-hour movie that holds the Guinness World Record for the longest film ever made. Although he mainly identified as straight, J.T. IV was refreshingly open about his same-sex relationships in his autobiography FROM THE INSIDE, making these works exciting discoveries in the realm of alternative and underground cinema.

Meh

"Appreciate the rarity of the film but it was quite bad. Low effort amateur horror. A curiosity."

Brice D. (3/5)

DIY guts

"The fact that this exists and people are interested in seeing it is one the best things about movies like this. Strong on the cannibal, a little light on the orgy"

Jack M. (3/5)

Not for me

"Some really good gore but the movie felt one note to me. If into punk/ underground music scenes you would probably appreciate more than me due to the soundtrack. Only 60 minutes but the plot is lacking"

Sean T. (2/5)

Fun discovery!

"Pretty much beyond obscure, this latest release from Bleeding Skull rounds up a couple fun features from director J. T. IV. Unfortunately all of his stuff, originally shot on 8mm, has had the film lost, so all that's left are ridiculously smeary VHS copies, but what survives is still pretty entertaining. CANNIBAL ORGY is a hoot, feeling like a cross between Nathan Schiff and Jon Aes-Nihil. I didn't like NIGHTMARE CITY! quite as much, but it still shows some promise, and you can see J. T. cutting his teeth before his CANNIBAL breakout. Extras are smaller than usual: advertised as a bunch of short films, these are all basically just music videos, either snippets of J. T. and his band performing live or him vamping on video in his house. An informative commentary is included over the main feature with a guy who has dedicated himself to becoming J. T. 's biographer. A/V quality is, frankly, awful, but between this and nothing, I'm glad we have these films. Dive in and enjoy!"

John K. (4/5)

Dark and grimy

"This is a rough collection. In presentation and content. Love it."

Paul W. (5/5)

I love this film

"I loved every second of this lo-fi crust punk filth."
