MY FATHER IS A HERO is part of our Vinegar Syndrome Archive collection, celebrating forgotten cinematic oddities from the video store era. This collection was inspired by our own brick & mortar video stores, with locations in Bridgeport, CT; Aurora, CO and Toronto, ON!
Unique to this line, each hand numbered limited edition release will come fitted in a specially designed, bottom loading VHS inspired slipcase, while also including a double-sided poster.
These releases will ONLY be available on our website and at participating indie retailers. Absolutely no major retailers will be stocking them. This slipcase edition (designed by Poochamin) is strictly limited to 4,000 units and may (but probably not) be followed by a standard edition in the future.

Gong Wei is an undercover cop living in mainland China. He is so deep undercover that his own wife and son don't even know he's a cop. After a mid-level gangster nicknamed Blackie is arrested, Wei is ordered by his superiors to help Blackie escape back to Hong Kong in an attempt to gain his trust and infiltrate his gang. When an arms deal goes wrong, Wei attracts the attention of a female Hong Kong detective named Anne Fong who begins investigating him. Things become more complicated for Wei when his own son soon ends up in danger and Wei has no choice but to team up with Anne in order to save his son and stop the gangsters from pulling off a deadly heist.
Released in America under the alternate title The Enforcer, MY FATHER IS A HERO teams up international martial arts superstar Jet Li (Once Upon a Time in China, Lethal Weapon 4) with renowned action director Corey Yuen (Righting Wrongs, The Transporter). Showcasing the lightning fast fight scenes and gravity-defying stunt work that Jet Li has become known for, MY FATHER IS A HERO also has an emotional storyline thanks in part to the performances by Anita Mui (Rumble in the Bronx) and child actor Tse Miu (Ip Man: The Awakening), who also has some impressive fight scenes of his own. Vinegar Syndrome Archive is proud to present this thrill-a-minute martial arts actioner on Blu-ray for the first time in America, newly restored from a studio-supplied 4K master, and featuring an insane fight where Jet Li's character uses his own son as a human weapon!

Jet li and son
"A great entry into the vsa line. This one is full of crazy wall to wall action set pieces and just as many insane stunts. Some of the fight choreography in this is absolutely fantastic. If you love your martial arts action movies this one is going to be a must!"

A Relatively Unknown Jet Li Feature Not to be Overlooked!
"For my full detailed review of The Enforcer, see my entry on Letterboxd: @M4N14K I viewed this film on the My Father is a Hero Vinegar Syndrome Archive Blu-ray Limited Edition physical media release and it is the same great premium level of packaging and presentation that you’ve come to expect from the generic releases of this boutique label. No other brand beats Vinegar Syndrome at the cardboard game and this great slipcover is no exception to the consistently fantastic artwork and component quality this company produces."

Solid Action Flick
"Good fights - I’ve come to love a lot of these HK action films. This isn’t my favorite but it’s solid, enjoyable. VSA packaging is still the best. Overall this is a nice edition worth picking up if you like Jet Li/HK movies of this era. Packaging, shipping, shopping experience all 5 stars"

Blind Buy That Exceeded Expectations
"This is what I'm talking about! First off let me say that the presentation of this is AMAZING! I love the look and style of the packaging! I do have one issue however that I'll address later. Now for the movie. This was my first time seeing this and I have to say that this is very charming and was an overall great watch. The 4k transfer makes this look fantastic! So fantastic in fact that it exposes wiring in a few of the fight scenes though maybe this was still visible in older releases of this film. It's not so bad that it ruins the movie, but you'll probably notice like I did. The one gripe in why I can't give this 5 stars is not the movie itself, but the VSA packaging. Again, I love the look of it and find the concept to be dope, but you have to be VERY CAREFUL putting the movie back in the slipcover. The bottom has these sharp corners in the middle that could damage the movie case plastic. Overall, I'm SUPER HAPPY that I brought this. You guys at Vinegar Syndrome do great work and anybody reading this review deciding to buy this won't have any regrets."

My Father is a Hero
"Are there better Jet Li flicks? Yes. Is this still a fantastic display of martial arts from one of the greatest to ever do it? Absolutely! A worthy addition to any Jet Li collection."

Really fun Honk Kong action flick
"I’m still in the early days of my Hong Kong action/kung fu movie education but so far I have to say Corey Yuen might be my favorite director in the genre, RIP Originally released under the much better title My Father Is A Hero, I know I say this a lot but I can’t get over how much this fucking rocked. Just absolutely amazing stunt work, insanely creative fight choreography, tons of explosions and shootouts; even the little kid is doing the sickest martial arts you ever saw Seriously within the first 8 minutes there was a fight scene on a catwalk above a crowd with a stunt that made me audibly gasp and almost the entire movie doesn’t let up from there, it’s fucking magnificent to behold. I must have yelled “WHAT” at least a dozen times at some of the stuff these guys (and gal) pull off This was also surprisingly emotional, I’m not being sarcastic when I say there was a legitimally heartfelt story of family here that actually made me cry during a certain part I cannot stress enough how much I enjoyed this Watched on Vinegar Syndrome Blu-ray"

Jet Li and Mo Tse shine as father/son duo
"My Father is a Hero showcases a great dynamic between a then-surging Jet Li and young Mo Tse, who starred in this year's breakout action film The Furious. This family-centered action film is filled with blistering martial arts and exciting action set pieces. Absolutely recommended!"
— Brian G. (5/5)
Nice Action Flick
"The slipcover is awesome, as always with anything VS or their awesome partner Labels release! It is a cool movie that was a lot of fun to watch! I always love the unique VS service of allowing you to stack as many movies as you like in your cart during any release period and ship them for free! The peerless VS restoration process was on full display with stellar sound and picture! Thank you, VS, for continuing to lovingly restore and release so many wonderful films from every conceivable genre! You are keeping physical media alive in this streaming world we now live in! Highly recommended!"

Jingle All The Way HK Style
"Jet Li’s gotta get to his son’s karate tournament, but unfortunately as he’s an undercover cop, he gets waylaid by some seriously bad dudes. Not to worry, his son seems quite capable of looking after himself, doing some major damage to a group of school kids. Another bizarre entry into the spread of HK action flicks."
— Andrew G. (4/5)
My Father is a Hero
"Another great Jet Li release. Very glad these great quality releases are available for such an important martial artist."
