Umbrella Entertainment has been a 100% Australian-owned and operated distributor for over 20 years. Their vast home entertainment catalogue features an extensive range of Australian classic, cult and exploitation films restored under the eyes of the original filmmakers. All sourced from national archives, underground collectors and local basements.
The nuttiest, wildest, most utterly insane science-fiction-time-travelling-rock-opera-eco-terrorist-action film Australia has ever produced, SONS OF STEEL is a no-holds-barred kick to the cerebral cortex. Once seen you’ll never be quite the same. World famous hair metal impresario and eco-warrior Black Alice is imprisoned in a stasis hologram by the dictatorial leaders of OCEANA, the corporate entity that now rules what was once Australia. Trapped in endless slumber for eons until he is accidentally freed by two barbarian warriors who patrol a vast wasteland, Black Alice learns that the home he once knew was destroyed by an adrift nuclear sub that floated into Sydney Harbour. Determined to undo the sins of the past, Black Alice must travel back in time to stop evil scientist and corporate stooge Secta from destroying everything and everyone he holds dear!
Lovingly restored from original film elements under the supervision of director Gary L. Keady and complemented by a host of additional extras, this rarely seen gem will knock your socks off, stuff them in your mouth and hog-tie you in front of your TV. There is no escape from SONS OF STEEL!

Reviews
Austrailian cult film
"Directed by Gary L. Keady, the film follows Black Alice, a heavy metal singer and peace activist who is thrust into a dystopian future. To prevent a nuclear disaster, he must travel back in time and stop a plot to blow up the Sydney Opera House. If you enjoy cult cinema, outrageous musicals, or Australian oddities, Sons of Steel is worth a look. It’s not a masterpiece, but it’s a fascinating artifact of 1980s genre experimentation — a film that thrives on its eccentricity rather than conventional storytelling."

Sons of Steel
"Tried to like it but couldn’t. People say good soundtrack/music, I say music just so/so. Purchased standard copy (slips sold out)."

My favorite ozploitation
"A movie so ridiculous its hard to believe it exists. As a cyberpunk afficionado, this is 100% mandatory viewing."
— Greg M. (4/5)
Ozsanity!
"A lot of great Ozploitation movies have come out of Australia, but Sons of Steel has to be the most insane. Looking for a plot, well SOS don't really need a stinkin plot, it's just wackiness with time travel and apocalyptic stakes. Fun hard rock tunes, crazy characters, action and off the wall comedy, this film is perfect for late night viewing madness. Amazing packaging as always by VS, with a beautiful embossed slipcover, comic book and original soundtrack CD! Extras are excellent too, with a making of, premiere footage, music videos, a truly complete package"
— Kevin L. (5/5)
Sons Of Steel
"The kind of weird rad ‘80s Ozploitation revolution musical you need to view when life feels incomplete, unjust and without meaning."
— Barb M. (3/5)

Excellent Movie And Stunning Slipcover!
"The artwork on this amazing slipcover looks absolutely stunning! The picture doesn't even do it justice! The film itself is very entertaining and full of action! I am a huge fan of all of the Australian Umbrella releases I have bought here on VS and this one is no exception! The peerless VS restoration process was on full display with stellar sound and picture! Thank you, VS, for continuing to lovingly restore and release so many wonderful films from every conceivable genre! You are keeping physical media alive in this streaming world we now live in! Highly recommended!"

Ozploitation Movies Are The Best
"Somehow, this movie works. This is about as close to a cyberpunk musical as I've seen and we need more of them. While the plot has numerous holes and is a wee bit random, and there are a number of performances that are way over the top, the movie is still worth a watch. The special effects are pretty good and the dirty sets really work here. The singing is pretty good and helps to set the mood; the mix of metal and blues is rather effective. The dark filming actually works to the advantage of the film, and the mix of attitude and low budget make the movie."
