Wanda’s famed archeologist father has been missing for years. Out of the blue, she receives an unexpected letter from her father’s colleague in Africa informing her that his disappearance is due to his presumed death after falling down a bottomless pit. Deciding to make the transcontinental journey in the hope of finding him alive, Wanda flies to Africa only to end up stumbling down the same pit as her father. Once at the bottom of the hole, she discovers that it’s the gateway to a lost subterranean civilization - Atlantis! Unfortunately, the Atlanteans don’t take too kindly to visitors from the Earth’s surface...

An intentionally absurd late 80s cable TV mainstay from Cannon Films, helmed by beloved cult filmmaker, Albert Pyun (Radioactive Dreams, Nemesis), ALIEN FROM L.A. stars actress and model, Kathy Ireland (The Player) in her breakout role, along with William R. Moses (TV’s JAG) and Linda Kerridge (Fade to Black). Vinegar Syndrome presents this wonderfully wacky sci-fi comedy on Blu-ray, newly restored in 2K.

Better on second viewing

"I picked up a cheap copy, as I wanted to give this a second chance (and I'm glad I did!). The film has a charm about it, but the first time I watched it the whole thing felt a bit disjointed. Second time it didn't, but I guess that's just because I had a better idea what to expect. What I will say is that Albert Pyun made it look a million bucks and the world he creates is rich and visually interesting. In any event, Cannon no longer exist and films like this aren't going to get made again (not shot on film anyway), so I think it's important to accept the shortcomings and accept these old movies for what they are!"

Needs more LA’s

"Cool, fun film. Reminds me of mom and dad save the world in tone. Great artwork too"

So weird!

"Annoying LA girl discovers lost underground society. Main character has the most irritating voice ive ever heard. Pretty fun and wacky movie though."

From MST3K to VS, For The Love of Kathy Ireland

"I originally discovered this movie through its appearance on Mystery Science Theater 3000 and despite its very obvious flaws, immediately fell in love with the movie. From there, I found it for sale on this website, my first exposure to Vinegar Syndrome. I'm writing this review from an email I received in 2023 and it's crazy how much I've stacked up since that purchase. This movie is awesome. Definitely check it out if you like silly, little low budget sci-fi movies that lean heavily on the fact that they could pull off casting Kathy Ireland."

Alien from LA

"80s adventure movies capture a bit of magic, full of great imagination, more than other eras. The journey to an underground Atlantis in this movie contains some of that magic. The sets, costumes, and all parts of the production are great. For the blu-ray, the picture quality is good and there are a couple of interesting interviews."

Cult Camp Curiosity Gets a Solid HD Treatment

"This Blu-ray of Alien from L. A. offers a respectable upgrade for Albert Pyun’s offbeat sci-fi oddity. Colors are stable, detail is improved over DVD-era releases, and the transfer preserves the film’s low-budget charm without excessive cleanup. Audio is clear if modest. A welcome release for fans of late-’80s cult curiosities."

Alien from L. A

"Alien from L. A. is a charmingly goofy sci-fi adventure that leans fully into its campy, fish-out-of-water fun. The imaginative world-building and playful tone give it an endearing ’80s vibe throughout. It’s a lighthearted cult favorite that wins viewers over with its creativity and unabashed silliness."

Alien from LA visitation!

"Great 80s nostalgia! This was another blind buy for me but it had a very interesting title and as always, great cover art! This was surprisingly pretty good, a little cheesy but great family movie. I enjoyed it and did really like the concept/plot."

Albert Pyun does it again

"Another Albert Pyun gem. Everything about this movie is silly but it's a ton of fun. Great sets, great performances and an absurd story."

Joseph I. (5/5)

Only Pyun could pull this off

"True Albert Pyun magic here, movie looks almost as beautiful as Kathy Ireland herself. Incredibly blessed to have gotten the OOP slipcover in the Labor Day sale this year. . . y'all should make a VSMC one if you haven't already, it's a great slip!"
