This special limited edition spot gloss slipcover (designed by Alessa Kreger) is limited to 5,000 units and is only available on our website and at select indie retailers. Absolutely no major retailers will be stocking them.

A troupe of five showgirls, along with their manager, are traveling through a remote stretch of countryside when their minibus gets stuck after a rainstorm. Finding refuge at the castle home of the mysterious Count Gabor Kernassy, the women make the best of the situation by continuing to practice their burlesque routines. But little do they know that the strange Count is harboring a fiendish secret and is intent on subjecting the lovely ladies to his vampiric desires…

A pioneering entry in the history of more erotically-minded Italian gothic horror, future Fulci collaborator Piero Regnoli’s (writer of Demonia and Burial Ground) sole horror directing effort, THE PLAYGIRLS AND THE VAMPIRE (L'ultima preda del vampiro) is a cheeky and charming mix of atmospheric castle chills and sexy go-go thrills. Starring actor-turned-producer Walter Brandi (Bloody Pit of Horror) along with veteran screen stars Lyla Rocco (One Step to Eternity) and Alfredo Rizzo (The Beast in Heat), and featuring striking black-and-white photography by Aldo Greci (Play Motel), Vinegar Syndrome proudly brings this delightfully offbeat drive-in and late-night TV favorite to Blu-ray for the first time, newly restored in 4K from its 35mm fine grain master and presented in both its original Italian language version and English dub.

Reviews

tepid

"Not much of a horror release. It comes across so tame for most of the movie you almost expect it to go the spoof comedy route, but it never does. The assortment of ladies are attractive, and there is a very long strip-tease that culminates in no actual strip, but hey. . . it's 1960. You do get what is probably the first instance of a nude female vampire on screen, so there's that. I liked being able to watch with the original Italian audio. The interview with writer Mark Thompson-Ashworth was good, and the artwork is nice."

The Playgirls and the Vampire

"The picture looks great, while the art perfectly captures the vintage atmosphere of the film. The overall presentation is excellent and makes this a really nice edition for fans of old-school Euro horror."

Carl E. (5/5)

Entertaining Italian gothic vampire film

"Entertaining Italian gothic vampire film that doesn’t overstay its welcome. Love the artwork on this one as well. Extras aren’t stacked, but you do get an interview, several different alternate openings, and a trailer."

Kyle C. (4/5)

THE OLD DARK HOUSE EUROPEAN STYLE!

"A fun Sexy take on "THE OLD DARK HOUSE" with Playboy models/dancers coming to a large Vampire castle, in search of refuge from storm blocking the roads & bridge into town. The film is less Horror & more camp & Silliness, but non the lass a fun early 60's Euro-camp-horror! Nice restoration from VS."

Derek L. (4/5)

Playgirls and the Vampire

"Plot: Five stranded showgirls and their manager take refuge in a spooky castle owned by Count Gabor Kernassy, who harbors a deadly secret and targets the women with his vampiric desires."

Dig it

"This looks really nice. Film is a bit slow but I expected that considering the era."

Roger S. (5/5)

Playgirls and Vampire

"This one seems slept on, including by myself until recently. Predictable plot, but that’s not an issue. People getting stranded in a storm always does the job. Nicely photographed sleaze! Packaging is nice and the artwork is typically solid. Would have liked a commentary track, but the special features are solid."

Ryan W. (4/5)

Italian Gothic

"Nice early Italian Gothic with sexy women, an old castle, and plenty of atmosphere. What more can you ask for?"
