With the impending release of her new book, “The Nesting,” agoraphobic New York-based writer Lauren Cochran decides to spend some time outside the city to find inspiration for her next novel. Arriving in the small town of Dover Falls, she happens across an isolated and dilapidated mansion that bears an uncanny resemblance to the one depicted on the cover of her latest work. Feeling a strange pull to the place, Lauren decides to rent the property and quickly gets herself set up and into writing mode. But it’s not long before she starts experiencing bizarre, vivid dreams and seeing ghostly apparitions. Soon enough, those around her start dying in strange and gruesome ways. What could all this have to do with the house’s murky history and a tragedy that occurred there decades before?
The only mainstream feature directed by prolific illustrator and erotic filmmaker Armand Weston (Defiance, Take Off), THE NESTING - which was originally filmed as Phobia and subsequently re-released in 1983 as Massacre Mansion - is a stylish supernatural slasher expertly photographed by João Fernandes (Children of the Corn, Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter), and featuring Academy Award-winning actress Gloria Grahame (The Bad and the Beautiful) in her final screen role. Now newly restored in 4K from its original 35mm camera negative, Vinegar Syndrome is proud to unveil THE NESTING in its UHD world premiere, presented in its longer Phobia cut for the first time on home video, alongside a host of new bonus features and a wealth of archival material.

"I’ve been waiting to pick this release up. Artwork used for the slipcover. Love haunted house movies and this feels right up my alley. Love when these types of films get 4K releases."
"This was my first time viewing this gothic horror, and I really enjoyed it. Looks great, enjoyable story and the special features were generous. I thought the interviews with Robin Groves, producer Don Walters and Stephen Thrower were all very interesting. As was the featurette on restoration. Excellent artwork on the slip, and booklet."
"Really happy to have seen this one. The Nesting has a very strong old dark house vibe, and the atmosphere does a lot of the heavy lifting in the best way. It is spooky, stylish, and exactly the kind of underseen horror title that makes boutique releases so exciting. Not a perfect film, but definitely a rewarding one."
"This was a fun watch. Pacing was a little slow at times, but overall I enjoyed the vibe. The appearance of Gloria Grahame gives it a touch of class. Would liked to have seen Armand Weston direct more mainstream films. Looks great in 4K!"
"Great early 80s Horror film and a rare non-adult outing by director Armand Weston (Take Off). I already own the Blue Underground Blu-Ray and that release was fine, but lacking extras. This new deluxe edition by VS is giving it the attention it deserves. I haven't had the chance to open it and check out the restoration and special features. I'm sure it's awesome though. The artwork on the slipcover is really amazing."
"The performances in this terrific VS presentation are very good indeed! I loved the film and it kept my interest from the beginning until the very end! The peerless VS restoration process was on full display with stellar sound and picture! Thank you, VS, for continuing to lovingly restore and release so many wonderful films from every conceivable genre! You are keeping physical media alive in this streaming world we now live in! Highly recommended!"
"A great recommendation this one and what a great slasher very underrated this one nice presentation Sharp quality As described well packaged quickly dispatched"
"I think the enjoyment level will depend on your mood, but i felt like seeing a slow paced ghost movie and this fit the bill. Not the best haunted house movie, but the worst either. The picture quality and the extras are as good as you would expect from VinSys."
"As with all VS titles, this was a great release…. Lots of bonus features, excellent remastering , slip cover, for a lost / forgotten classic supernatural story. Loved it !"
"This a ghost story about an agoraphobic writer that rents a house in the country that is haunted. I know we've all seen that kind of movie before, but this one has some pretty good atmosphere in it. Whoever scouted the weird looking house as the location gets major props for this movie working. I had never seen this one, and it was a very enjoyable watch."
