Solid film
"Solid film, but it feels like two different films spliced together at times. Maggie Cheung appearance makes it worth watching."

Fong Sau Ching is the Chief Royal Guard during the Ming Dynasty, whose job is to protect the Emperor at all costs, including with his own life. One day, Ching discovers that one of his men, Fung San, is a sadistic rapist with a penchant for murdering his victims by breaking their limbs. After Fung San attacks the Princess and several other women, Ching is tasked by the Emperor with hunting down and killing him in order to restore his own honor. However, things take an unexpected turn when the two men come face-to-face for a duel to the death, only to become literally frozen in time by a mystical device known as the "Wheel of Life and Death." 300 years later, in modern Hong Kong, Ching and Fung San are accidentally thawed out. Unfamiliar with his surroundings, Ching struggles to adapt to his strange new environment and soon finds himself at the mercy of an obnoxious call girl named Polly while attempting to continue to search for Fung San, but little does he know that Fung San is adapting quite nicely to both the weapons and crime ridden modern world and is beginning to resume his murderous ways.
Featuring an awesome, action-packed final face-off that ranks amongst the most over the top in Hong Kong cinema, Clarence Fok's (The Naked Killer) THE ICEMAN COMETH skillfully combines daring action set pieces with fantasy and horror elements, all wrapped in a comedic "fish out of water" scenario. "Solid film, but it feels like two different films spliced together at times. Maggie Cheung appearance makes it worth watching."
"What a fun movie! This was much, much better than I’d expected - I knew it’d be a fun romp, but it really hauled in a lot of genre influences to deliver a series of moods. The martial arts and sword fights were fantastic - done well before there was any CGI, these looked to be done by well-trained well-skilled actors and stunt men, not poseurs. The storylines on paper would seem ludicrously disconnected, but they make so much sense here as a whole. Visually, it is of course very 1989 - it’s wild to see fashions and city settings from then as antique and classic nowadays. The transfer is excellent! I watched the Cantonese version and was very impressed with how clean and sharp the entire viewing was. Definitely a favorite of my VinSyn purchases!"
"Great, goofy supernatural gunplay with beloved pros."
"Having first seen this on an old Tai Seng DVD, I found it just okay then, and a second viewing on Vinegar Syndrome’s very solid restoration didn’t completely change that. Still, I was able to better appreciate its goofy time‑travel premise, Yuen Biao and Maggie Cheung’s charm, and kung‑fu‑meets‑fantasy energy. The excellent special features help elevate the package, making this an easy recommendation for fans of silly martial arts hybrids."
"This is this kind of delirious, pure entertainment insanity that I need injected straight into my veins"
"I really enjoyed this fun flick from beginning to end! it had lots of action and a good cast! The artwork was terrific as always! "Good late 80’s Asian action. Recommend"
"Rented this a few times back in the VHS rental days. Probably the earliest Yen Biao film I saw, and while not his greatest, it is a treat to see him, Maggie Cheung and Yuen Wah together."
"More Maggie Cheung please!"
"I've always been a fan of Yuen Biao's movies, so I had to catch this one as another blind buy. Obviously I loved it. Pretty fun with awesome fight sequences and a great story behind it."
